Just a warning to people (scammers)

Maybe I've just been unlucky the last few days with the people I've chosen to trade with, but I've noticed with the release of housing, there's been a sharp increase of people looking to scam others.

Safest way to trade is via mail with COD [cash on delivery]. But this isn't without its pitfalls either. Common sense, but double check the item they've sent you is the same as what's been described when you entered the deal. Today I've went to purchase 2 sharpened Spriggans daggers and each time I was sent a defending and another trash trait rather than the shapened one. I look before accepting the deal so got away with it. A lot of people on the EU FB page have had people pull similar stunts in recent days. They do it with unrefined mats and gold alloys. They send similar looking mats, but cheap ass mats. As for trading face to face. They have nailed the removing of their item and stealing your gold down to a tee. Again, I haven't been caught out because I currently refuse to trade this way.

Just warning you guys and gals on console. There are a number of kids that got told no from mummy and daddy about getting cash for houses, so instead they resorting to stealing it rather than earning it.

Is there a way to preview attachments in player to player trades? There isn't always a description so sometimes trades are done heavily on trust it feels like.

I never do face to face as the system is open to abuse. I do it via mail. Via mail, I know you can check as I do it all the time. The people who will fleece you have it down to a tee like i said. they're quick. you enter your trade and they pull their item quickly and steal your gold/items.

You can float you mouse over the item in the F2F trades and see the Tool Tip, so try to float your cursor over on the consoles. Test with someone you know to see how it works.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

They had something similar in GW1 too where people would be fast enough to swap out the R8 15^50 weapons with like R13 15% stance weapons so fast you didn't even realise it before it was to late, either using programs or very fast macros.

I to this day don't see how this is possible. Are you saying there is a hack or bug that bypasses the trade systems functions? When someone pulls an item out of the trade window on me, it cancels the accept if I've already clicked it.

And also I thought CoD's appeared in red and also a confirmation box if you truly wanted to buy it as well, so hopefully not alot fall for that right away.

Window shopping is the safest all around imo.

    Mail is always safer as.

    1. There's no feeling of rush to make the transaction.

    2. If the scammer does try to pull a stunt the COD price is on them

No idea how it's done as I haven't been scammed this way as I haven't used the face to face trade screen for around a year. From what I remember, it takes both of you to press the accept option, but these guys can unaccept and accept again quickly and put the trade through as if you're just giving them the item. Or at least that's how i remember it happening.

However, there are a number of people on the EU PS4 Fb page that have had it happen to them in recent days.

That's what I thought it did. If my accept got canceled, it means I need to double check the item in the trade window. I supposed there's a very small window of opportunity between when you mouse over the item and when you hit accept where they could swap it out though.

Agree, just use COD or guild stores for larger sales to be safe. It's pretty easy to scam people with the way the trade interface works (at least on PC).

With the pressure that has been put on the market and gold we will naturally see more scammers and bots running around. That should ease up in a month or two hopefully as the market stabilizes.

This one of the oldest tricks in MMOs. Back in the day of EQ1 and 2 and I'm sure WoW, you could do the same, when the trading window was up, you put in the good item, the other players looks at it and sees its legit. Then you "accidently" cancel the trade and then when you trade again you put in a crappy item with the same icon and do the trade and hope the person doesnt bother to look again.

That one is an standard scam in many games.
Guess you can set up some mouse macro for it too.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

It's guild stores or COD for me. I refuse to trade face-to-face (unless it's a close friend). I've seen too many people get burned.

Watch out for CoD mails as well cause people sit on them for a month before it returns to you if you don't know them that well
