Are they more difficult? Does it require different mechanics?

Yes. 2's are the old vet mode and they have different stories and are generally a bit tougher than the 1 version even now.

You can now also do 1's in vet mode and those are a bit easier... for vet that is

The 2 dungeons are the original Vet versions of the dungeons as I just found out by doing one. The difficulty in 2 is the same as 1 in my experience.

So, using Fungal Grotto as an example, you could do the following combinations?

    Normal mode:

    Fungal Grotto I
    Fungal Grott II

    Veteran mode:

    Fungal Grotto I
    Fungal Grott II

    PC-NA-EST

    - Divine Crusade Guild
    - Greybeards & Gals Guild
    - Dead Citizens Guild

Number 2 dungeons are same as what vet dungeons were, prior to One Tamriel (for those around prior to the One Tamriel updates).. just without being a vet mode. So, essentially, it is a vet dungeon in normal mode. Same path and adds/mobs/bosses, but less difficult than if it is on vet mode. Dungeon 2 on normal mode will give you a good idea of what to expect on vet mode, aside from the increased hp and damages coming from the adds/mob/bosses on vet mode, along with vet mode mechanics.

On the latter, for those that haven't done vet dungeon 1, it is a normal dungeon turned in a vet mode, with same path, adds/mobs/bosses as normal dungeon 1, but just with increased hp and damages coming from those adds/mobs/bosses, along with some added vet mechanics, but not too difficult to figure it.

I recommend just checking youtube clips/walkthroughs of those vet dungeons for those that haven't yet. You will get a better idea and be more informed of the mechanics, prior to getting into those runs.

    Correct.

yes this correct. The mechanics and bosses differ slightly between version 1 and 2 (and sometimes the path through the dungeon). Other than that they should have roughly the same difficulty when comparing normal vs normal and vet vs vet. Obviously the DLC dungeons are a bit more difficult than the base game dungeons but that is by design

Mode 1 is pretty easy. I have been soloing those dungeons now for Undaunted pledges so they are pretty much a guaranteed success run.

Mode 2 is more of a challenge good for groups.

Update (not running this in veteran mode)

Mode 2 is more of a challenge good for groups.

Veteran mode versions are a a really good run for a group.

The II mode often has mechanics that make soloing it impossible. Some can be done solo however.

If you ever get Dark Shade Caverns II, immediately check group levels. The mechanics of the boss fights in this dungeon are far too difficult for low levels. If you group has a bunch of lvl 10-20's quit group and save yourself the hassle.
The Netch boss will summon adds that will overpower any low level group because they dont have the AOE skills to burn the adds down.
And then the final boss has an AOE poison attack that will one shot all low levels before they can even pull the levers. Trust me Ive tried, and tried and tried so many times. One group we even stood right next to the levers and pulled them but didnt matter, all the low levels died in seconds. I ended up with a 1400G repair bill and the group disbanding because they couldnt kill the boss. The poison does too much damage. Your only hope is a strong healer that can out heal the poison, a level 10 healer wont cut it.

Instant quit City of Ash II as well if you have low level players. This dungeon is long with boss fights that low levels just dont have the skill sets to defeat. It takes forever if you dont have CP level players in the group.

Some of the version II dungeons are not too bad. Like Wayrest Sewers II is pretty easy if you can get past the lich boss. Banished cells II isnt too hard except sometimes the daedra summoning boss can be hard for low levels to burn the adds down.
