Furnished or unfurnished homes. Is furnished worth it?

When I get home, I'm buying Ebonheart Chateau. Is it worth it to go furnished? I can't really decide. I'd love to hear your opinions on it. I've essentially already paid for it with ESO+ by saving crowns so price isn't a huge deal. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Not really in my opinion, although you will get a lot of items to move about, its a pain re-configuring everything to your taste.

Although if you are not the decorating/hoarding/crafting type, I could see a benefit. If you want to create something that is truly "yours", then no.

I bought my home prefurnished. Later realized those furnishings are about the most basic, ugliest, pieces of furniture available. Now all those items are completely filling my inventory since you can't deconstruct them, sell them, or do anything but delete them. So the option is to delete something you paid for, since there is no storage, or buy a second home to use as a storage unit until these items somehow find a place back into your home. Looking back it would have been smarter to get an empty house.

Due to other in-game activities, I didn't have any time for decorating when the PC patch dropped ... so I bought my first house (Twin Arches) with crowns.

Since then, I've acquired Hunding's Palatial Hall with in-game gold ... which will be my project during the down time.

TL;DR - If you don't have time to decorate then purchasing with crowns is a nice convenience.

It is nice to know before buying that the furnishings provided are bottom of the barrel and can only be deleted. I was under the impression (just an assumption, not from any source) that you would be able to store any furnishings you did not want in an inventory that didn't take up space. Knowing that you have to delete what you don't want, but you've already paid for, I am less inclined to buy furnished.

I think it was worth it. I purchased the Daggerfall Overlook with my ESO+ crowns, and I'm so happy I did. I agree that some of the furnishings are not to my liking, but on the whole, I like the style and am happy with the furnishings that came with it. If you don't like the items that show with the preview, I would skip it. However, here is a post showing some info on the approximate value of the furnishings in each home.

Unfortunately you cant store furnishings in the craft bag.. you can however store thousands of ore, wood, plants, runes, all types of food, and other things.. but a simple chair or spoon.. heavens no. lol

I opted for purchasing furnished housing with crowns because I have neither the gold to buy a house nor the time to furnish it fully from scratch. With my choice I can move straight in and still spend a lot of time harvesting the mats, looting recipes and crafting the furnishings to complement the existing content without being bothered with saving up even more gold to buy over-priced stuff off the guild traders.

And even if I do find some way down the road that I have the time and gold to do so, and insufficient other content in the game to keep me amused, I can always buy another house unfurnished and make furnishing it from scratch my main project.

Win/Win

Pros:

The cost of a furnished house is far cheaper than the cost of the furnishings, if you're likely to buy furniture with crowns you only need to want a few pieces to get your money's worth.
It gives you a head start on getting a fully decorated house so you won't have days/weeks/months of weird looking half full rooms.
It will only use about 1/2 the item limit, so there's plenty of room to add your own touches.
All the furniture will match the racial style of the house.

Cons:

It costs more.
You can't customise it as easily because you start with a load of pre-set stuff that you have to rearrange or swap out.
If you don't want any of the furnishings your only options are to delete them, move them to another house or keep them in the bank. (If you do delete them you can't get them back.)
There's not a lot you can do with a fully furnished house so you may find you have less reason to go back there if you're not gradually adding furnishings.
All the furniture will match the racial style of the house.

Yes I know some of those contradict each other and one is on both lists. One person's benefit (less time with an empty house) is another persons disadvantage (less opportunity to customise).

Different houses have vastly different furniture amounts / values for the "Furnished" option.

For example, the "Furnished" Sleek Creek house gives furniture of poor value compared to other "Furnished" houses.

If you can afford it go for the furnished. I have the Ebonheart Chateau and opted just to buy it furnished. Absolutely nothing is in its original place anymore (it can all be moved), but it does give you a lot of building blocks to play with. In this case, a fair amount of plant life for outside and a bunch of Dark Elf furniture on the inside.

Gonna be honest, if you go big, go furnished. I bought Forsaken Stronghold with gold so the only option was unfurnished. It is a daunting task trying to fill that space. Sure you'll buy some achievement items and find some recipes. But let me tell you, the blueprint market ain't no joke in the beginning and the mat grind is real. Unfurnished large homes sit pretty empty for a while till you really get going.

Might depend on house type, I bought the Khajiit mansion and its furniture is high quality.
I can imagine the quality is lower on the cheaper houses.
You get an preview of furniture and see if you like it.

And even if you like the basic design, the basic designs tend to be pretty cheap to craft or buy for gold.
My downside is that I need nice furniture to match the design

There are various items to buy with crowns directly from the ingame housing editor, and the dps dummy is under the workshop option i think.

It's not in the regular CS menu it's in the housing crown store menu under housing editor.

I bought old mistveil manor, it was furnished like squatters lived there.

The entire appeal of housing for me is decorating the house to your liking. Buying a furnished house defeats that purpose.

I think if you are going Crowns its HAS to be furnished. You can always move the gear or add to it. For that cost it's well worth it.

If ur all about the house simulator odds are you going to save the gold and go full on crafting route. Each to their own and all, but that's what ill do. Maybe have some.cheap gold.houses to travel ti, and if I want to put anything beyond crafting sets or skeletons (utility) ill buy furnished.

It was too many crowns for my liking . If there was a gold option I may have gone that route just to have a pool of furniture to play with . Furniture is still expensive on the markets currently .

Depends. If you buy the unfurnished version, are you going to be one of those who posts all over the forum about it being impossible to fully furnish by crafting everything yourself with mats you personally harvested the first week? If so, please buy the furnished version.

Or are you good with starting with a table and stool and working your way up, buying achievement items and items you like from other players as you go to supplement what you can find/make? If so, unfurnished may be the way to go.

No. The furniture you get is mostly junk you could buy or farm yourself in about two weeks of play time. It's white and green furniture. Not to mention you'll end up getting rid of a bunch of it once you decide on a theme and scheme of your own.

I know a lot of people who've done it, but it looks like a new trap to me.

Interesting how people talk about the furniture being "junk" when you can fully PREVIEW what the furniture looks like beforehand to decide whether you personally think it's junk or not. I bought both the Hunding's Palatial Hall and Forsaken Stronghold fully furnished and I really like the furniture that came with it and fits the house perfectly. I did add more foliage to the Stronghold though, using the pack from the Crown Store... that's pretty much the only additions I've added so far to my two houses.

Furthermore, it's interesting how some people complain about being stuck with 'junk' furniture that they hate, but refuse to delete them on the principle that they 'paid for them so they're not going to delete them'. What's the point, other than stubbornness, do you find to hold on to something that you most likely are never going to use if you find them 'junk' now? Do you think they'll suddenly gain appeal in the future? If not, then delete them and accept your MISTAKE of buying the furnished house in the first place, especially since you could preview all the items before purchasing.
