✭Yeah from my experience, SWTOR is the king of freemium. ESO can't hold a candle to that.
I mean you have to pay EA to access your own credits, to hide your helmet, to wear your gear, to access your third companion, to PvP, to PvE, etc etc. It's like they don't want you to really play the game. How James Ohlen has fallen.
Anyways, why Homestead is definitely a cash grab, it still doesn't compare to SWTOR.

BioWare hasn't added a four-man dungeon or a raid in over two years. They turned a MMO into a single player game and you still need to sub to rid the gates BioWare has in place.
ZOS has no gates in place which forces you to sub so you can get the gear from a quest reward.
Yeah people dont' realize how good they have it here. SWTOR you literally can't access the entire game if you do not sub. You can't even use all your crew members to go gather stuff for crafting. Stop whining cause ZOS (please stop being so childish and putting $ for the S they are a business) gives benefits to people who are willing to pay monthly for the game.1 -

They encourage people to get subscriptions and use the crown store. So what? They have to make money somehow, since they no longer require a mandatory subscription. If their income is zero, guess what? There would be no game, because they'd stop supporting it. Basically, you're whining because you want everything for free.
A subscription is only $13 a month (U.S. dollars) if you get it for 6 months at a time, and you get 1500 crowns with that. I spend more than that just getting food from drive-thrus every couple of weeks.4 -
DurzoBlint13✭✭✭✭I dropped ESO+ after I heard about Morrowind. If you sub from just after DB to Morrowind, all you will have gotten out of your sub is the crafting bag and 2 dungeons (SoH) for almost a year of subscription fees.....and that is assuming there will be a DLC after Morrowind that DOES count for ESO+. That does not seem worthwhile to me.2 -

The sheer size of their store makes ESO's small.
I have subbed since PC launch, sub 6 mo. at a time, and find it defiantly worth it.

This ^^ and try out a prefect world game like Never winter or STO, you want to feel milked you will be dehydrated broke and poor with those games, ZOS so far has about the most modest store in the industry for now, but it is slowly ramping up a bit, there is nothing in the store you need to play the game is the nice thing, only stuff you might want. And I find it annoying that you get extra furnishing capacity if you are an ESO plus member, will anyone even use that much? A sweetroll probably takes 1 space up though so maybe lol. I don't know what SW:TOR is.
Perhaps if I could buy a years worth of eso plus in one go id be more tempted. £15 a month isn't attractive if i'm honest.
Like ESO, SW:TOR started with a sub then went to no sub required, but unlike what BioWare did, ZOS didn't put any gates in place to force you to sub to get everything that was rewarded from completing a quest.
The crafting bag is worth the $15 plus the $15 in crowns per month.
Like I said, you owe ZOS an apology. Not only are they giving you $15 in crowns every month, they actually give you more than those who don't sub. BioWare took gear away from people who don't sub. You actually have to get permission from cartel market to be allowed to use purple rated gear unless you sub. You have to buy weekly passes to PvP more than a few times per week or do dungeons/raids.
Are you gated to how much you can PvP or raid in ESO without a sub?
They took out the weekly passes. You pretty much have to sub to swtor if you wanna do any end game stuff. It's quite sad and just milking money from players at this point.0 -

OK, ESO+ isn't worth it in your opinion, therefore you're not a subscriber. So far, everything seems consistent, so what's the point of your "rage" ? What makes you so angry ?
The fact that ESO+ privileges are not required to enjoy the game to the fullest, but provide simply quality of life features, is precisely what makes it a fair deal (as opposed to a cash grab or a P2W design).
Sometimes I feel that the unfairness of blind attacks makes me look like a ZOS-fangirl !

It is entirely possible to unlock ALL DLC / EXPAC content in LOTRO without spending a single $/£ etc.
Given that the Epic Book quest-chain is Free To Play right through to the latter part of Rohan, or was it early Gondor, and that from that you'll earn tons of Turbine Points to unlock subsequent content if you wish.
My old LOTRO Kin had 3 people who had everything unlocked and had never spent a single £.
Now tell me you can do that here in ESO.

What actually happened was Turbine were beginning to focus on the mobile gaming market, and so were not at all heading in the right direction for LOTRO.
So the Turbine staff who worked on LOTRO set up their own company - Standing Stones Games - and then bought the LOTRO franchise from Turbine.
Personally, I hope it brings a much needed change of direction to LOTRO, because some of the people who formed Standing Stone Games and went with them to work on LOTRO are truly dedicated to what made LOTRO great from the beginning. Made-Of-Lions for example.

I know a few players are predicting a new "renaissance" for LOTRO, even going so far as to say that it will return to its sub-based glory days.
I love LOTRO and consider it my 2nd all-time fave MMO after City of Heroes. I hope they do well in the future.
However, I prefer to keep a healthy dose of scepticism.

First off, eso is not a f2p game, so no comparison actually exists. Second of all, you are not giving the whole story of Lotro here. That option to grind your way to full unlock does exist, but I dare say that no normal gamer would subject themselves to such a masochistic task. With your last comment, what are you specifically asking me for? As b2p game there would exist no feature to play and unlock as f2p. The optional sub doesn't restrict you at all after purchase. Help me to better understand what it is that you're implying.3 -

Personally I think ESO+ is great although I think some more features would be worth while but I'm not gonna beg for it. I think its worth my $15 every month simply for access to DLC and craft bag. It also helps support all the free updates we get and ESO in general. You're welcome for Homestead and One Tamriel along with the countless patches that improve the game regularly. You do realize they could charge for these things but they didn't.
Its just like crown crates, I didn't like the idea so guess what I did? I didn't buy any crown crates! If you don't like ESO+ don't buy it, just please do this one thing for me... Stop bitching about nothing, trust me when I say no one cares.

hahaha swtor isn't even in the same ballpark as eso. We all know swtor has been on life support ever since infinite empire and only the fanboys will tell you otherwise.
Swtor f2p is better compared to eso if you know how to work around the system.

I enjoy aspects of LOTRO immensely. But the last 18-24 months (before SSG took over) took the game down a route I wasn't happy with. The combat is lacking in terms of pace and impact, and I loathe Big Battles.
The in-game Music System is as fine an addition to an MMORPG as anything I have ever seen.
The Wardrobe / Costume system really is good enough that it should become the template for all modern MMORPGs.
The depth and breadth of the "lore" in-game is arguably the most impressive of any MMORPG, SWTOR and ESO come a very close second IMO.
I do go back to LOTRO periodically, I am no longer subbed, but the rent on my house is paid through until late September I think.
I left LOTRO and went to play SWTOR, I liked the faster paced combat a lot. I left SWTOR to play Wildstar I liked the faster paced combat a lot. I left Wildstar to play ESO and I liked the faster paced combat a lot.
Now playing LOTRO combat feels like playing in a vat of molasses - and it is the main reason I don't stay long when I go back.
