Help with getting into Cyrodiil to explore or battle

Please forgive my ignorance. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for googling or searching here.

I can get to Cyrodiil without issue. When I get there, the only place I can go is on a road that leads to another keep. I can't venture far off the road to explore. Along the road, I see no one. I've tried twice to get in to explore or at try out pvp there. What might I be doing wrong? Any reference links or advice is much appreciated.

On a positive note - I've just started using the group dungeon finder tool and it's great fun! I'm just trying to experience all that ESO has to offer.

There is a "Welcome to Cyrodiil" quest that shows you how to use siege and the transitus shrines to travel to different keeps.

If you are looking for a battle look for crossed swords icon on the map. Also, there are a few different campaigns, and perhaps the one you entered is not very busy at the moment.

I'll try it - regarding the crossed swords: I couldn't leave the road to go anywhere but between keeps.

Sounds like you were perhaps in the small area by your home base?

The transit shrine allows you to teleport to any keep controlled by your faction. Once you travel outside your base area, you certainly don't have to ride on any roads - you can go by horse anywhere across the entire map.

Keeps have to be controlled to fast travel, otherwise get on your horse and take 5 minutes to get there.

what do you mean "I can not venture off the road to explore"? Do you mean there is an invisible wall that stops you? Or the scenery looks the same? I have never heard of this issue and not sure exactly what you mean by it

I went to alliance menu this time - did 30 day standard , did not do not do guest this time... and that's when I got the quest. Thanks

try using the /zone text chat, to ask if anything is going on, or if there are any groups you can join.

Try joining a campaign where the population is 2/3rd full in your campaign and at lease 1 enemy campaign. Completely full has worse lag, and more chances of dying in combat due to sheer numbers rather than skill. 1/3 full you sometimes get interesting skirmishes, but you can still go for a long time without seeing another player, i've found.

If you look on the map for any keeps/resources/outposts that have a star around them, it means they are under attack which will give you pvp. Also look for crosses made of the alliances swords. A good addon to get is cyrhub ( if you are on pc).

Some campaigns have few players in them. Try a different campaign.

Thanks for all the help you all.. Will look into what everyone mentioned. I am doing the quest right now - I keep getting kicked to logon menu for some reason. Other than that, things progressing.

There's a thing in the quest to repair a siege engine I think? The quest circle is small but I can't find the thing to repair. Advice?
