Why are patch notes called natch potes?

This has been confusing me for a while. The first time I saw it I thought it was a one-off, someone switching the title around to break up the monotony of the same topic coming up every single patch day.

But I've since realised it seems to be the standard name for them among players, even though ZOS still call them patch notes. The topics are always called this and people even say natch potes in discussions about upcoming updates.

What's the reason for it? Does it mean something different, or is it just an in-joke?

Yeah, it's just a thing that happened and people have kept up as a tradition.

I don't know if there is a original case which caused it or if this is a meme specific to ESO or not.

Sounds like something you would call a fried potato dish, they should make a food recipe in game with that name.

FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

It simply is a cute name that people came up with and been running with since then. The Natch Potes thread that Gina posted once was an April Fool's thread when the name was already established ;P

Nope, it was a forumer thing. But Gina and Jessica adopted it, said it had spread in ZOS' office too, so it stayed and evolved ;-)

    Really ? It's not a 100% ESO thing anymore ?

Hah! And all this time I've been blaming poor Gina and she's innocent.

Not surprised it has spread to other games. Natch Potes are so much better than boring Patch Notes.

The forum would have started it but Gina spread it to the ZOS office

What, it actually originated from here? I was assuming it was a thing on most MMO forums anyway.

I've never seen it anywhere else and I don't remember seeing it on this forum early on. But I can't say I've checked most MMOs forums as I don't play them.

    Blame @Faunter.

No, seriously! He typoed and it became a meme!

Wish my typos became memos. Or maybe I don't... It's embarrassing enough when I manage to do things like accidental roll-dodges off cliffs in Veteran Trials. Who knows what kind of ridiculous typo I might become "famous" for.

Just to make things clear : I haven't created this gif.
It has been around natch potes threads for as long as natch potes threads have existed on these forums and was always much appreciated. We call them the "Natch Potes Seagulls".
I think it's one of the best memes/gifs ever created. We once had the original author, a young student, on this forum but unfortunately I don't remember his name.
Nevertheless, enjoy ! But the credit is not for me ;-)

    It's just a Spoonerism.

In UK English its very common! Like an Englishmen walks into a Chippy and asks for a Cake and Sidney Pie (meaning Steak and Kidney).
