All posts not strictly about ESO will now be closed?

Published a post about how some people react to ESO, and how we should discuss our different reactions to the game in a constructive way. The mods claim that this has nothing to do with ESO, and closed the thread. If this is a general rule, and not a sign of the mods' bias in this particular case, then it seems like all posts about netiquette in the ESO forum and reactions to the game, will now be closed. Nice to know which general principles are used by the mods to determine when discussions about ESO and our forum have no longer anything to do with ESO. And interesting to see if they now will close all threads that are not strictly about the game content itself.

Well, to be honest, your post was related to tolerance and curiosity of different views - not even in relation to ESO.

When it comes to baiting, flaming or swearing, the moderation is not always very consistent, but it usually is when it comes to closing off-topic threads, and the thread you're talking about was off-topic - although interesting imho.

Be careful, you might get into trouble if you keep opening one thread after the next, each one related to the previously closed one.

Well, there have already been several threads about the discussion climate in the chat zone and our forum, and especially my last post was directly linked to that, so why was it stopped?

Is it no longer allowed to discuss netiquette and reactions to the game?

It is but only when it's strictly related to the game and not some psychological experiments you want to try in ESO.

This forum is about ESO and nothing but ESO. ZOS is pretty consequent when it comes to that (it's not only your topic) to keep the ESO forum ESO related. I think that's fine.

i did not find the closing of that thread to be inconsistent with their typical policies or all that unusual.

When the informal experiment was directly related to earlier threads about the discussion climate in ESO, then it's not logical to claim that it has nothing to do with ESO, especially when serious threads about netiquette have always been allowed, as far as I know.

So no more posts about netiquette? All complaints about nasty replies in chat and forum will now be banned? Forum users deserve to know, since then we can all stick to just discuss the ingame content itself, and nothing else.

If you want to conduct social experiments in the forums you need to be more subtle. You might want to start by not saying "I'm conducting a social experiment" :)

Iselin, if you read the two posts, you will see that the first experimental one was subtle enough.

We've closed this thread due to heavy reference to real world politics and lack of constructive discussion.

They had nothing to do with the forum or game, but rather personal texts that have no place here. This, too, is another useless thread that serves no purpose but to stir the pot.

@ChaosWotan Make your thread on Tamriel Foundry. You should be fine there. This is an official forum for ESO and the content restrictions are higher than you may be used to. If you keep making threads complaining that your topic was closed you're likely to get hit with a temp ban from the forums.

Sounds like you would be more at home in the reddit forum. All the casuals there would probably be excited for your little experiment.

Closing threads not related to ESO has always been the case on the forums. The description for General Discussion is as follows: "The place to discuss a variety of ESO-related topics." So it is expected that threads at least relate in ESO in some way as part of it's topic.

With that understood, if your thread has been closed and you require further information on the closure please reach out to the moderator who has closed your thread. There are many threads here discussing people's reactions to different aspects of ESO and nothing about that that breaks our rules. If there has been a closure it may be due to other rules being broken. We're more than happy to provide that clarity for you if the closure message lacks that.

If you have further questions you may also want to review here. This thread is otherwise closed for a discussion of moderaiton.
