Can we get some way to remove the shine from armour?

I like to craft my own armour so I can have control of how my character looks and one thing that really bugs me is how certain styles have a really annoying sheen to them, particularly Ebony and Glass as well as a number of end game robes. The only dye I've seen that can remove the shine is Cold Harbour Ash Black and I prefer more grey steel colours for metal. I really like the Ebony Style but it's rather irritating how shiny it is.

Such as? I've tried the majority of grey dyes, if the armour is crazy shiny, it's gonna stay crazy shiny. Well, that or pitch black.

    Try to do this:

    - MyDocuments
    - -ESO live
    - UserSettings.txt
    - CharacterLighting = 0

or use VotansAnvancedSettings mod for the same setting.

What, you don't like all your characters ending up light pink when you apply the deepest shade of red to the armor? And yeah, the armor dying consistency is bad. Some sets have it worse than others, and other sets even have individual pieces which have different shades to them (e.g. dye the chest white, it's white, but the arms are pinkish-white).

    It's frustrating to no end.

Shine should be controlled through the dye, not the armor piece.

I agree with the shine of the armour being controlled through dye, it does seem possible seeing as the coldharbour ash black can remove it.
They could add dyes to remove the sheen but the dyeing consistency could be a problem if they updated it, people preferring one of the shades a dyes gives over another and then complaining about how they can't use the dye they preferred. That could be solved by just adding in a bunch of dye variations but then that would mess with dyes being tied to achievements

That would be interesting. Maybe a way that armour and weapons get's dirty over time and a crafter would be required to clean it. It could be another way to use those crafting skills. Don't tie the dirt to any stat, just something cosmetic.

Maybe use common and uncommon dyes? I think the rare ones have an actual shine to them.

To some degree. Glass heavy is just near impossible to dye nicely. This is one of the reasons I quite using the motif. I love how it looks, but unless I want to look pastel, there's no good way to dye it.

Some motifs have the shine baked in, most noticeably on heavy armors. Compare Glass motif to something like Outlaw and they dye night and day. Outlaw armor looks gorgeous, Glass will never be able to dye anything other than a weird pastel. Dark reds turn pinks, blacks turn light gray... it's terrible.

I do kinda wonder why they made Glass and Ebony styles so shiny. Glass was rather shiny in Oblivion but they clearly based the design off of the Skyrim armour which had rather tame colours and I don't think there has ever been an Elder Scrolls game where armour made from Ebony was shiny, maybe Skyrim but that would of been a slight polish, similar to the later heavy armour in ESO rather than super gleaming.

That did actually kinda help, does that just stop the character model from reacting to light sources? Could they in theory just alter how Ebony armour reacts to light?

Theres a weird thing I've noticed with Lich set's armor.

This is how it looked before One Tamriel ( when you could only drop from Dark Anchors)

    XROstm4.png

And this is after One Tamriel where you get it from Crypt of Hearts

    m83whmr.png

Idk what changed but this shining effect is added to the armors which means they can remove it as well.

Well that's lame, I didn't know they were updating armour to make it give them more of a sheen. The chances of them making these armour less shiny is disheartening, it would be an improvement after all but they do seem to be doing the exact opposite.

Would be good to have it set to make all metallic and others matt. For instance transliminal violet is my favorite but it looks trash on glass light but epic on heavy. Epic on trinimac light and crap on heavy. There should be a standard to it.
