Can we have our own style on us?

How to explain this. I really hate how many set items look like, and I hate to wear them, why can't you give us the possibility to wear whatever we want. I would like to pay any crown just not to see those shoulder and head sets. What's the point of crafting then if I won't be wearing items (style) that I like.

You're referring to costume slots. It's been requested in many threads but ZOS has never given any indication to us if they plan on implementing it in the future.

I am glad more people agree with me. Because I really hate how Selene Set or any other sets look on my character, it's ugly!

I would love to see the feature as well but considering that costumes are currently a money maker for ZOS on the crown store, I think it's unlikely we will see this anytime soon. Costume dying is available to ESO Plus subscribers however so you can get some customization in if you sub.

I know, and it would be a money maker if they allow us a single (our style) slot for X crowns! Seeing bearded males in wedding dresses is kinda funny, but still prefer to see mine own crafted style on my characters. Blizzards made it possible in WoW in Cata, why cant ZOS make this possible after 3 years of game existence?

In a way, I believe they loose money too, from forcing us into wearing dropped sets... So many great 'crown store exclusive' motifs, I am sure I cannot be the only person who didn't buy these due to it being pointless! Imagine if we could use motifs to change the appearance of dropped sets! These crown only motifs would have sold much much more

With regards to costumes, I rarely buy them, I have just 2 that I use, most are ugly and I wouldn't wear them or spend crowns on them, the motifs however... Grim Harlequin has to be my favourite motif, and I still didn't buy it, because I am forced into wearing argonian style on my sorc, and khajiit on my templar, so why waste money on motifs?

Exactly! If someone wants to wear wedding dress, they will buy one. But we want to wear sets, which we crafted, or there is no point of making million of different styles!

Other games let you change the appearance of your armour and sell complete costumes in their store and people will still buy the costumes.

Either because it's easier or because there's totally different looks you can get from costumes. ESO already has lots of costumes which are nothing like the armour we can wear so I think there would still be a market for that.

I dislike any "wear whatever we want" suggestions, due to bad experiences in other games where people ran around in dancers silks yet wore heavy armor... it grates on my immersion!

And yes, I am fully aware this is possible in ESO as well. I just wish it wasn't, wish that "non combat costumes" would either unequip as soon as the fighting starts (like disguises) or reduce the protective value of any armor worn to what the costume showed...

    How-ever...

...I DO think they really should give us some transmogrification option. And not some half-hearted one like the "convert to imperial" thing that fails as soon as you stop using garbage and switch to set items. A proper one, possibly as unlockable perk for master crafters, done from any crafting station, enabling said crafters to change the style of any item to any style they have learned. It could possibly also allow change of material looks - get rid of those fugly red swords, and choose any other crafting material tier look despite the item being CP160... make it look like a steel sword for example while keeping all the stats of your endgame weapon!

Such a feature would then use resources, style materials, and have a destruction chance just like temper improvements, migrated by using more materials... and could also use some rare "special transformative" resource (like nirncrux or perfect roe rare) which they then could sell in the crown store to those with more money then patience... and would also make motives more valuable, again possibly leading some to make even more crown store purchases.

    Everyone wins!

There are some costumes that you can unlock in the game, that you can use to cover up the uglier armor.

Personally I refuse to look like a hobo so I just ignore most item sets. All but a few in styles which I like.

Costumes theoretically offer a solution but I'm not a subscriber so can't dye them. Except their pre-set one use dyes which are useless IMO. So I don't buy costumes.

For the characters I actually play, I make armor in styles I like. And thankfully the game has several which I love.

ZOS, really, let us wear what we want, as there are so many beautiful styles and we end up in ugly sets in end game. I will pay any crowns, just to wear what I want! :(

I seem to remember reading something way back that ZoS said no to costume slots because they said it would hurt the in-game economy. As in, people would get the one look they liked and stop buying mats and motifs to make new gear with the look they want. Hello...apparently they've never played a game with a costume editor. People spend more gold on that stuff than they ever do the stat gear.

Yes, also I would be willing to change the look from time to time so that is another crowns to buy more slots... and as I said if someone wants to be a pirate, they will buy the costume one way or another...

Even in WoW Blizzards let us wear what we want in Cataclysm expansion and I must say WoW gears look horrible, but they did it anyways, just to mix the juice, as in the end game everyone looked the same. PvP or Pv, everyone were forced to wear those gears...

I swear to god, how have they not said anything on this yet? The player base clearly wants it, the subject comes up literally every day on the forums and my motif collection is gathering dust! Let us change the styles of dropped sets/monster sets already!!!

Every style has to be included in the game files (mesh, texture, colors) so the game can display them to you and everyone else. Even a lot of the standard styles currently have bugs: pieces of armor clipping or floating, wrong colours and/or possible to dye properly. Player made styles would be far worse in this regard. It will never happen.

I think the OP means choosing existing armor styles to be displayed, not player made styles. ex. changing Nord style armor to Bosmer style

Yeah, it's nonsense. If anything it would INCREASE sales of Motifs in the Store, because now they can be used by anyone. The simple solution to prevent this detracting from crafting is to make sure crafted sets cannot have their appearance altered. If you want a Grim Harlequin crafted set, it must be crafted that way.

They already have the system in place. Right-click a piece of equipment, select "convert to Imperial style". They just need to change that to "convert to other style" then provide a list of all known motifs. If they want to be extra greedy, they make sure you need the relevant style mats to do so (or, of course, Mimic Stones).
