Invisible walls in Houses

I know the invisible walls are there to stop us jumping out over the side of some of the house but why are they on the inside? There's a attic space in Humblemud in which I'd like to build a bedroom up there but I can't because of invisible walls, same with the Gardner House in Wayrest, I wanted to place a platform up there to use up some of the roof space. It's really rather annoying.
