Maelstrom Staff questions

So I just got a sharpened maelstrom lightning staff and at first I was really excited, but now that I think about it, I don't know how I will use it. For vma, is a sharpened maelstrom lightning staff better, or is a regular sharpened inferno staff with spell enchants? Also, in trials, can I backbar a maelstrom lightning staff or does it HAVE to be inferno? Thanks

A sharp lightning vMA staff is still one of the best weapons in the game.

Replacing the enchantment on it isn't a good idea ... as the enchantment itself is better than any max level gold enchant you can make. I made that mistake once in PTS testing.

I don't think trial raids are going to turn their noses up because you have a vMA lightning staff on your back bar.

Depending on your build, lightning staff is the clearly superior choice even.
Thinking about it.... it is always the superior choice actually. As long as it is the weapon where your wall of elements is coming from. Lightning staff is better as a secondary weapon, fire is better as a main weapon in my opinion.

Use this and you'll know that the vMA lightning staff is the best drop you can get

I've been using it on my DK and sorc as the main weapon for a while.

I'm even using a nirnhoned one on my healer. Meta since homestead!
