Is Homestead too much of a grind?

So now I finally empathise with those who had to experience months of grinding in VMA to get that precise weapon! My experience to date with this RNG heavy update is that it will take many months to collect enough writs, patterns and mats to furnish my home.
Low material drops, low master writ drops, low pattern drops and triple RNG have evidently made homestead the latest arduous grind for ESO. But did ZOS get the balance right between grind, fun and reward??

My large house is fully decorated, a week and a half after the patch went live. Sure it was expensive (around 1.5 million in total), but there wasn't much grinding. I literally just bought whatever I needed from guild traders.

I overpaid for everything in the first few days. If I were to decorate this house today, it wouldn't cost more than 1 million gold as furnishing prices have dropped substantially. Give it a few more weeks and it will cost half that.

I wish I had that sort of gold to spend on housing. I suspect many players don't.
But if you do have this gold and don't mind paying the prices then kudos!!
If I had the gold to avoid the months of grinding then I too would take this option

It only feels like a grind now because it's new.

Give this update a few months and you'll have plenty of housing items in guild stores, blueprints at low prices (look at the costs of recipes now after three years) and materials would have levelled out.

It's kinda grindy, but in my case mostly because I'm saving up for Domus Phrasticus, and for me 295.000 gold is a lot.

But i'm generally making around 60.000 gold a week, so I'm slowly getting there

Between trading patterns/blueprints with other players, collecting mats as a normal part of gathering, doing writs as normal everything falls into places very easily. Spending some gold helps as well. Gold is super easy to come by in vast quantities in ESO. The only way I can see how people think this is a grind is if they play ESO pretending it is a solo player game.

I'm not sure I like it exactly but I'm ok with the way it's working.

In my case I knew it'd take months to furnish a house no matter how I did it. It's going to take me almost 3 months just to save up the gold to buy the one I want. Hopefully by then I'll have collected several blueprints and materials myself and prices on guild traders will have dropped, but it's still going to take a while after that to get it decorated.

But I'm also finding the RNG aspect is getting me to consider a wider variety of furnishings. On the PTS I didn't put any urns or vases in my house because I just didn't think about it. I think I looked through that category but when I was looking for things to fill a space I tended to go to other categories. Now I've found 3 patterns for vases so it's highly likely I'll be using them when I come to decorate.

It is annoying when I can't find certain 'must have' items (I haven't got patterns for any beds yet except the basic bedroll and stretcher) but I know it will get easier to find them on guild traders. And if it really comes down to it I've allowed myself £10 (about 2,500 crowns) to spend on housing. 400 of that is going on the Trees of Tamriel pack but the rest will be for those items I really like and cannot find anywhere else.

Grinding is a choice. It's clear that both patterns and mats will accumulate in the course of normal play, assuming that your play includes looking in containers and picking up flowers and logs. If you prefer to buy furnishings/mats with gold or crowns those are options, too. I remember all the complaints about housing being a two-week wonder prior to release. Now, two weeks later, folks are wailing that that's not the case.

I've bought Autumn's Gate house for 60,000 gold. I thought it will be enough, I thought I'll get skeleton and that's all.
One week later I've collected 300,000 gold to buy a house in Narsis because it's furniture limit is better than limit of little houses. In Autumn's Gate I've build a funny statue of golem riding my horse and a half of limit gone already.
Now I'm collecting gold for big house in Riften. I need 1 million. I have 280K for now.
And it feels ok to me. Seems like this time-and-gold-consuming feature works perfectly. I wonder I'll spend a lot of time playing with decorations, crafting and selling furniture. I like it. I like it can not be done in a couple of weeks, it's a long-term activity as it supposed to be.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

Yes but I think ppl associate grinding in odd ways.

Some say they'll just take their time. (That's still a grind as speed and frequency doesn't change what it requires)

Some say they'll just take their time. (That's still a grind as speed and frequency doesn't change what it requires)

I think grinding means actively working on a goal (maybe on it's own, maybe alongside other goals) to make it happen faster. That's different to just playing and assuming you'll get it eventually. Specifically it means doing the same thing repeatedly until it results in the outcome you want (like turning a grind stone to make flour).

So for example when I log into my two thief characters, go to the ships in Daggerfall and search every single container for furniture blueprints and items I can sell to a fence that's grinding for gold and furniture. When I'm doing a quest where I have to search an NPCs house for some items and while I'm doing that I find a blueprint that's not grinding because I wasn't putting in any effort to find it, I was just doing a quest and it happened anyway.

Likewise if you go to a zone and run around looking for crafting materials and don't do any quests or talk to NPCs or fight monsters unless you have to that's grinding. If you're doing quests in a zone and happen to pick up some crafting materials because you found them right where you were standing that's not grinding.

if you want more detail there's a whole Wikipedia article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinding_(video_gaming)

as previously mentioned, rng is abysmal.

housing also has a lot of bugs, some quite irritating.

not to mention, twice - yesterday - after writing up detailed bug reports, the bug reporting system also bugged out, completely, and those reports vanished of into the cyber-ether.

    hopefully this gets fixed...(yeah, i know) :/

Housing is a grind you're exactly what I'm referring to.

Not to confuse with how you describe grinding.

Housing....requires a significant amount of time, resources, and repeating in order to progress. "Housing is a grind" by use of the order of words.

It was pretty bad the first week, but I feel like it's gotten a lot more enjoyable now when more blueprints are available in guild stores.

Heartwood is still a pain though, but I like that furnitures takes a bit of effort to craft, it makes them a more prominent part of the economy

I think the "recipes" for housing items will be cheap and widely available in a couple more weeks.

I would like the ingredients that come from nodes to be a bit more common, because it is taking forever to get enough heartwood and bast to craft all the stuff I want to craft, but in another couple weeks that will be less of an issue as well.

My biggest problem right now is with the "Master Writ" grind. I have a lot of motifs and most traits researched on my main toon and have a total of 12 vouchers for all the writs I have done. At this rate Morrowind will be out before I crafting stations in my home... I know there are people who have been a lot more lucky, and I will eventually get a good one, but so far the RNG here has been treating me very badly.

Maybe if the writs also had a chance to give the housing specific ingredients as well it would feel a little less grindy and more rewarding?

Issue I got the overall number of items you can put in a house is terrible. Items like lights, trees and rocks (should be like 10 lights equals one vase) need count lower than others stuff. Separate count for inside home and courtyard.

Furnishings say 700 (manor) can max out fast should be 500 courtyard and 500 home

Trophy Collectibles 80 (manor) raised to 200 and include achievement locked items

Other Collectibles 10 (manor) this one sucks as too limited maybe 25-50 be better. I have assistants (3) mounts (3) only leaves 4 for pets (I want a farm!)

Here we created an bazaar courtyard already nearing 500 items alone and lighting not done yet (want add crafting stations!). In fact I stopped getting achievement items so I can start making inside furniture (nothing in home yet!)

    053d7b2fad4fe43d1607a532345bff.jpg

Love housing but for cost of the manor it will never be way I wish it due to limits the game currently at. Having a great big place (we using as a guild hall) means nothing if not able to fill it up!

Steal your limit every day and you will soon have that gold. I created an alt 1/1/17. Spent two weeks leveling then went to thieving. In a month, gold balance is close to 800k. It would be more, but the gold from stolen items I sell goes to my main alt. On top of that, most of the furniture plans I've got were found stealing.

Didn't vote because I'm not certain as of yet. So far, I've spent 2mill on writs(The writs, not the matts which I had), all of the vouchers were spent on the furnishing plan gamble. Still looking for the specific plan I want.

That being said. It hasn't been two weeks yet. I'm impatient, and if I had waited a month, I likely would have been able to find the plan I wanted easy(that's what I tell myself ;) ).
