so I am going to roll a tank / healer for my group (it can be done I promise don't argue)

my plan is a combination of resto / destro (ice) and maybe sword and board.

I know warden is kinda supposed to be this but I don't think it can beat Templar in this role and wanted opinions

1- BoL is still the best spamable heal
2- restoring aura, ritual of retribution, and channeled focus are just amazing together.
3- various passives increasing resistances, damage blocked, healing, etc.

I just don't think based on what we know that warden could do this better, especially as its heals seem to be from what we can tell mostly dots. and BoL is just too good.

game got too disappointing.

There's 5 months to go til Morrowind. You can probably Templar now and Warden later. So... both.

Ever since the announcement of the warden I got rid of all my excess alts and in-progress characters, and now I exclusively play either of my two level 50's trying to accumulate champion points and gear/materials for the future warden.

It's going to be quite a wait, though, so there's definitely time to level up something else if you want.

On the topic of warden abilities vs templar, we just don't know enough yet to make that call. Ultimately it looks like the warden will be very good for both the tank and healer roles, and it looks like there's a possibility the warden will be more hybrid-friendly than other classes - zos knows we want hybrid builds to work, the just aren't willing to change what we have right now to make it so. With a new class, options are opened up a bit more.

I think you should base this decision more on the flavor appeal of the two classes rather than their particular skills, at least until more is known about the warden skill lines.

Do you want to play a druid/shaman style character with ice spells, flowery heals, and animals, or do you want to play a cleric/paladin style character with holy sun magic and spears?

Depends. We need more specifics of the Warden passive and skills. Will wardens get s cleanse? Access to major mending? We don't know yet. Templar is a safe bet. But the future is still too uncertain to properly assess.

Well, less than four months actually, but I agree. Long time to wait.

Warden will be the new kid on the block - I'm sure it ll be op in every department. it sounds like it is going to have the best of all worlds - they've learned from all the other classes as to what works and dosent.

    - it will have self/ group heals like templar
    - crowd control like a DK/ sorc
    - mobility like a NB and sorc
    - dps that is both dot and burst like the best of all
    - pets pets pets .

id make a templar now- cos theyre awesoe- and save 2 slots for ur warden- stam and magicka- but I'm still holding out hope that they include 2 slots WITH the morrowind package and not force us to pay for more.

Tank-heal hybrid doesn't work for endgame, so it doesn't matter which class you go. Pick the one that has the more interesting skills since this isn't a serious build.

I'd roll a Templar. They are in a good place now. Plus, their burst healing can't be beat. Warden looks like heals will mostly be HOT's.

Warden really only has one pet, the others are just normal spells with animal aesthetics

I actually run this now and it works on all dungeons apart from rom and cos.

    2 bs/lw/chudan, 5 spc, 3 willpower all max mag/mag recovery enchant.

Resto: springs, rapid regen, cb prayer, repent, rune(orbs if using 2pc chudan)
ice: ritual, inner fire, ele drain, bol, harness

70+ spc uptime and 50+ cb prayer, while self sustaining and healing the group.

tons of potential for improvement too if using better gear/heavy/seducer etc, but that works perfectly fine as long you have at least one good dps with you.

Edit: the rotation/playstyle is difficult, as you will need to keep up rune(self buff and regen), ele drain (group debuff and sustain), ritual (self sustain via ele drain), harness (so you can survive better), while keeping up with rapid regen for your own mag sustain from vma staff, as well as proccing spc for group members. Pumping out cb prayer as much as you can while keeping above buffs going, and do heavy atk/block on resto staff if your mag is low. Most boss fights you can face tank while standing in red, some you will need to move around as you are not as tanky as a proper tank.

I wouldn't doubt some class reworks to go along with the release of Warden. But that's conjecture.

You'll want to play something before hand, I'm guessing, so why not Templar if you like it... you never know...

thanks for all the tips and feedback.

the rotations and playstyle should not be hard on me as I have been normal tanking for some time and actually wanted to add more on top of that. I have played something close to this in another MMO before and I have enjoyed being the healer tank combo.

plus it allows for 3 dps in dungeons rather then just two, and I get to be in charge of my own heals.

it will be a double whammy if I screw up though as nobody to blame but myself. but I really enjoy they role it brings and appreciate the tips, looking forward to it.

my race choice ended up being Breton even though argonian would also be very good, I just cannot bring myself to play one, high elf was up there too but they are a wee bit more dps and I can make use of Bretons tank stats.

Yes the actual tanking/healing part isnt terribly difficult, however at the same time you should be providing buffs to your group as much as you can, so they can output damage similar to having a proper group, that means keeping up spc procs and cb prayer as much as possible while surviving. Im sure its possible to drop the 2 monster set and 3 willpower for 5 alkosh for more debuffs on boss, since downside of this build is lack of major fracture and crusher enchant. (I use maelstrom resto and master ice so i cant run crusher, but again this can be optimized by sacrificing abit of your own stats/sustain)
