Sitting down. The worst feature of Skyrim is now in ESO. Can it be turned off?

Boy do I hate sitting animations. I hate trying to start dialog and then all of a sudden sitting.

I looked through settings and didn't see a way to turn this off. Is there a way?

I think OP means the button to interact with an NPC and the button to interact with a chair or object is the same button. And he keeps accidentally clicking on chairs when he tries talking to NPCs. Is this correct OP?

I too find it annoying sometimes trying to speak with an NPC when somehow I accidentally end up stealing an apple next to the npc, and now a guard is extorting money from me.

Look up. The NPC's face us up there, not down at wherever your dirty cursor is lingering. ;)

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

I get more annoyed how a npc follower is on top of you. So when I am trying to loot, I end up in many conversations with the npc by mistake.

That was not in place in the early days of the game. The Follower would be some distance away, and you had to walk to them to talk to them. Somebody complained and ZOS decided to have the followers now be glued to the Player Character. I wish it was back the way it was.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    ^This.^

    Sitting down is optional.

If you can't be bothered to move the focus just a little bit from the piece of furniture to the NPC , well ...

I would agree that it can be frustrating to press E on a chair when I meant to loot a container.

Best example I can say is in the room after boss fights in Maw there are chairs right next to chests and heavy sacks.

Can't count how many times I've accidentally sat in a chair instead.
Make PC NA raiding great again!

    Down with drama!

I'm in the exact opposite mindset, I thought it was hilarious it took ZOS 3 years to implement a sitting mechanic. It's great for RP'ers, except you can't be in first-person and sit at the same time which is dumb.

They need to expand on this. Add first-person, be able to use certain emotes and personalities while sitting, etc.

There has to be a warning window.

Do you really want to sit down?

    Press E if ok.

    Please confirm commencing sitting down.

    ...

    :D

While I think it is not even close to the worst feature award I sort of understand the "problem". My solution would not be a toggle but the ability for your own keybind.

Edit: Well ... I'm a PC kinda guy, not sure if that would work for the consoles.

A keybind would be great. I could bind sitting to /dev/null.

Some responses here must be from people never played Skyrim where there is regular inadvertent sitting trying to interact with objects on tables or individuals. Of course, the animation takes forever in skyrim/fallout. At least this animation is fast, though pointless.

    You have bad reading comprehension.

I am happy RPers have this. That is why I did not ask to get rid of it. I asked for a toggle.

Try to understand what you are responding do instead of saying useless comments like "if you don't want to sit don't sit" when that is exactly what I want to happen.

Its especially annoying if you are in restricted areas.
Khajitt wanting to examine the carpentry of an chest in an house with jammed door, end up sitting on an chair and get an fine.

Its an cool feature, but should perhaps be mapped or handled a bit different like hold down E like heavy attack.
Same with picking up owned items then not sneaking.

I can relate OP, that pesky E changes at the best times.
