Motifs only drop from the final chest in VMA. Don't believe what anyone else posts below me.. they lie.
    Happy hunting.

    Hope it helps gl.

Clearly the most effective way is to work overtime and spend that money on crowns to buy the motifs from the crown store.

Drop rate for some motifs is likely below 5% (just my estimate), so you could be grinding for a full year and still be missing some motif chapters.

Ahh, I see the game has changed so much but the forums are just the same.

Good to see, but I hope you achieve more with Valentines day then you have with trying to quit the forums ;)

@iord_stryker That list is just for general reference. When you find what motif you want to farm just do google search for the actual page drop locations.

The problem is that when i google stuff with this game i get info thats 2-3 years old.i was under the impression that the one tamriel update changed things like this. Time was that i being pact had to farm in covenant zones for primal and barbaric and dominion for daedric and ancient elf, is that still true?

Depends on the motif I guess. There are so many styles so I suggest you just google the style you are going for

Yup. Motifs drop from world bosses, trials very rarely from daily quests like orsininium. I believe even some dungeon bosses drop them. All if them have come down in price in guild stores running as little as a few hundred gold up too tens of thousands depending on rarity and how they're acquired.

Can't remember where exactly I got those, but I already found several of each. I usually sell them on one of my guild traders for below 5000 gold... so no need to farm these 4 books, buy them if you still need them.

For all the motifs available from quests: Welcome to the grindfest! >:)

I believe primal and such drops in random containers like urns and nightstands in your Cadwells silver quest area. So as EP you will find it in DC ^^

Motifs are generally zone specific and often quest/boss specific from dailies. A lot has happened so read up. http://eso.mmo-fashion.com actually has a good list of motifs and where they drop. Also check out sites like tamriel foundry, uesp.net, elderscrollsonline.wiki for good info.

Silver and gold zones no longer exist. You can get them out of containers anywhere now. They may be gated to level 50s with specific quantities of CR, but if that's the case, I've no way to know.

This is the best source, IMO:

    http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Styles

Also check the guild stores for current prices. Some older motifs like Trinimac are becoming more expensive over time because people don't do that content anymore, whereas new motifs like Ra Gada are continously dropping in price. Hollowjack and Skinchanger, both dropped during the Halloween and Christmas events, are also still pretty cheap. Just do your research before you buy or sell something.

Afterwards, pick the style you like best, and work on that, either by making gold and buying it, or doing the content where it drops.

    Happy hunting!
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.

Technically, they do. You still get Cadwell's Silver quest at the end of defeating Molag Bal and the Gold quest upon completion of the Silver alliance quests. So yes, they DO still exist. The only different with One Tamriel is that you don't need to wait to be offered the quests from Cadwell in order to travel to the opposing alliance zones and begin those quests.

I've gotten most of my motifs from containers spread around the world. Just a few days ago I picked up a barbaric motif from a container in vuhkel guard. I think it was in a dresser in the mages guild?

I just came back after being gone since the beginning too. Having fun, can't stop, won't stop. Good luck with those motifs.

To add to this, just picked up an ancient elf motif book in a backpack at the clothier in Orsinium. From what I can tell, it is fairly random where you get them, but check containers everywhere. You never know.
