At an Elder Scrolls Online press event, Matt Firor confirmed to our own Bill Murphy that the game is sporting 8.5 million players. At E3 2016, ESO had 7 million players and has grown by 1.5 million since then. This number is based off of units sold and is not simply a tally of registered accounts.
According to Firor, the population is split fairly evenly among all platforms. Currently, Elder Scrolls Online is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and XBox One.

Many people are pissed by overpopulation, while they do not realize that the more money there is, the more resources there are. More developer, better servers, more active world etc.....
Mcdonalds has sold billions of "burgers", irony is the quality zo$ shares with this.

But.....isn't ESO supposed to be a broken unfun train wreck?
The forums tell us daily (sometimes hourly) that Zos created a doomed abomination that is going to be shut down in disgrace any day now......I mean there is a death to ZoS Reddit and everything.
Guess someone forgot to tell 8.5 million people.
Oh! I bet that there is really only about a hundred actually playing and the rest quit because broken and greed right?
Or most of the forum whining is hyperbole.
Either or.....yeah.Mcdonalds has sold billions of "burgers", irony is the quality zo$ shares with this.
Rays of sunshine like this is what keeps the forums amusing.

ESO has 8.5million copies sold.
COD Black OPS 3 had 25.68 miliion
COD Infinite Warfare. which is by ad far a terrible game is about 50% of black ops 3. So about 13miilion.
A game that Activision Blizzard acknowledges was crap sold more copies in a couple months than ESO has in almost 3 years.

Unfair comparison though.. its marketed to a different audience for starters.. and Activision have almost unsurpassed expertise at gouging every last cent out of a franchise.
I.e. Skylanders.

That's the point of it all
One perspective ....or check tuesday for sales on For Honor and include both PS4 and Xbox One or a game like GTA V

I had to use a roundabout way to get numbers for COD infinite warfare because I can't seem to find a direct sales figure. They only quote the decrease in sales vs Black OPs3. That's the advantage of a publicly traded company; the president can't lie to shareholders. They can misdirect, but a lie would put them in legal trouble. Something Zenimax has no concern with because they are a private company.
