Steam Unlimited to Gold Clarification

thelogicalghost
I'm sure this must have been answered somewhere but I can't find it and the answers I do find are confusing.

I purchased ESO on Steam back in December, the "Tamriel Unlimited" version, which does not contain any DLCs. I've been playing it and enjoying it, and looked at DLC prices. Ouch! But the "Gold" version on Steam, which includes the four biggest DLCs, is considerably cheaper. If I were to purchase the Gold version, could I transfer my account and unlock those DLCs? Or would it be registered as a different game and I would have to start all over?

I do understand having a bundle price for a game plus expansions, but wow the DLCs cost at least twice as much purchased on their own through the crown store. It's a little insane.

There is no transfer of accounts between accounts or servers .....

Not sure about Steam, but there is a crown purchase (not money) from ESO that adds all the four DLC's to an existing account at a reduced crown price. I would think Steam would have a similar crown purchase. You will need to purchase crowns, then purchase the DLC's with Crowns. Have you looked into this?

It isn't insane really. Such pricing makes the gold edition including DLCs look like a better deal to prospective buyers. Cos everyone loves a bargain.

Bargain hunting sometimes require patience. The 5500 crown pack bundles are infrequently but semi-regularly heavily discounted about 30-40% (depending on where you live). That effectively brings the price of DLCs down to something comparable to the gold edition. Additionally, DLCs on their anniversary have been discounted by as much as 70%. So if you're patient you can pick up the DLCs at equivalent or lower cost than the gold edition.

Question is how much do you want them? Are you willing to wait to save that amount of money for the DLCs?

I do not use the steam version of the game, so this may be different for you but when I returned to the game I bought the gold version at a discount from green man and applied the key to my account and it upgraded it. I also unlocked some sort of mount that is supposedly only available form buying the gold version of the game now or something. You should in theory be able to buy the gold version at the discount and it should upgrade your access and account type.

    Very cool.

The Gold Version includes the palomino horse and 500 crowns. It was the version I bought last year.

    So worth it.

This is straight from the Steam Store page:

The purchase of a Tamriel Unlimited or Gold Edition game cannot be combined with any existing Elder Scrolls Online account and must be accessed separately through the Steam client.

Sounds like they're referring to trying to merge your Steam and existing ESO accounts like everyone has wanted since the dawn of time but you could also interpret this as meaning you need a new account for Gold Edition. I would recommend emailing Steam support and asking them. They have a good support team and should get you a quick response.

If I understand correctly, when you buy the gold edition, you get the base game and a key or keys which unlock the dlc.
I think you could buy the gold edition, then log in to your eso account on the ZOS website, where you could redeem those keys.

    I could be wrong.

My wife complains that I never listen to her. (Or something like that.)

    My ESO addons:
Midnight - Find out when midnight is so that you can check for ww/vamp spawn.
Goto - Adds a tab to the map pane allowing you to teleport to a friend, guildmate, or groupmate for free.

    Well, no not really.

You're likely to get the same automated reply multiple times asking you if your problem has solved itself.

Steam support? I've never had an issue but its admittedly been about 6 months since I had to contact them for something.
