Trying to redo one of my favorite classes from Dark Age of Camelot

Hey all,

I have been trying to emulate an old class from Dark Age of Camelot. My favorite class was the Skald, but I don't see any feasible way to make that happen. It seems easier perhaps to go the way of my second favorite, the Champion.

Below is a link fromt he DAoC web site that shows the abilities of the class. But basically the Champion was pseudo battlemage. I favored the big weapon version (2 handers). The class also had a wide range of debuffs/buffs/snares/and a ranged magic attack.

Does anyone have an idea of what class would be best to come close to recreate the Champion? I've been thinking the Nightblade might work well since they have some cool debuffs and buffs..so does the Templar but it's more of a cleric type.

Anyway, any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well I'd say stamina dk or stamina sorcerer to be honest. Stamina DK will use more DoTs, debuffs and feels more of the typical warrior playstyle than most of the other classes. They generally use physical, fire, and poison abilitys. Stamina sorcerer has more of a battlemage style. They generally hit really hard, walk around with a storm aura, and have a lot of auto healing. Mostly physical, and shock damage. One major difference I see between the two classes in pvp, is the dragonknight uses a one hand and shield more often than a stamina sorcerer, who would generally opt for the bow. Both SnD and bow gives you major defile (30% healing debuff) which is very, very good. Both classes use two handed weapons almost always in pvp though. Both are very good classes in pvp.

Great responses. Thanks, guys! I had another thought when xboxNA suggested the Stam Sorc...a Thane! They were a great addition to DAoC and loved the lightning. So I'm thinking a StamSorc with Hammer and Shield. The focus being on melee damage and only using the Storm portion of Sorc class. Any thoughts?

Play the way you want but there are a couple skills in the other sorc trees that are at least worth getting (dark deal, bound armaments.)

Just keep in mind you will not have a truly ranged magical attack, you may be able to run overload and try that for your ranged and its not bad but there are more optimal ultimate's for a stamsorc. I would also consider bow and dual wield for different situations.

I tried making my stamsorc into a Thane-style build. Its kind of fun - but the way ESO mechanics work, it performs poorly.

It used Black-rose/trainee, with a bunch of Hajeiko enchants, 1-h and shield/destro(lightning) Was mostly melee, but used mages wrath as the main ranged ability since it looks exactly like the thane casting animation for its main attack, Also had the idea of using the new ranged impulse morph for lightning staff (instead of the thane hammers). Power surge gives the 'glow' to the hands like the thane self-buff, and I added lightning proc enchants to my weapons to mimic the thane procs.

The problem with mixing magic and stamina abilities here (ie lightning and weapons) is that they both use different sets of stats - both for sustain and damage. Abilities that cost magicka use mag magicka/spell power/spell crit/spell penetration to determine their damage. Abilities that cost stamina use max stamina/weapon power/physical crit/physical penetration to determine their damage. They also have different cost-reduction/recovery stats for sustain too. Its very difficult to stack enough of these to be able to do damage with both stam and magicka abilities.

I mean, yes, you can use gear like trainee/blackrose that impacts both stam and mag equally - but when it comes to jewellery enchants, attribute point spending, CP spending and mundus - you're forced to fall on to either the stamina or the magicka side.

Stamina sorc would be the closes one considering the CC and mobility.

But dont forget - this game is nowhere close to being similar to DAoC besides 3-way PvP. Not even close to being as balanced as DAoC, nor even fun wise.

You will see abilities like Purge being spammed right and left making your CC and negative effects worthless.
