Worth it to do max level writs on alts with no research?
I do writs on other chars then my master crafter/motif master, for surveys and lowbie recipes to sell, I dont think its possible to get master writs on them, or the chance is extremely low. My opinion on the experience so far since release.
If you are looking for master writs, it impacts it heavily. Master writs are dropping in cases of lots of knowledge (research/motifs). I do the wood, heavy and light on about 6 toons. Only my main crafter who has high levels of research and most motifs gets them. However, I do get them for enchanting, alchemy and food (rarely) on my toons that have full knowledge on those. Learn ALL the traits on all the plants for alchemy. You will get them. Learn all the different enchants and you will get them on enchanting as well. I think prismatic seems to impact the enchanting because I've not done one on any and they are less common drops for me than the alchemy ones. On PTS I was getting enchanting ones regularly. Here I've gotten two across a stack of toons.
I will add though that for the mats and surveys and even the gold it can be worth it to do the writs on wood, heavy and light. Remember, surveys that you get do give you raw mats which can be refined (getting nice upgrade mats) along with the occasional gold temper/wax. This makes them really worth doing for a shot at some nice mats and a small chance at getting another master writ which probably could happen but is not going to be common.
I hope that helps.

Have only gotten 3 master writ drops so far, not sure if that is avg, low, or high. And RNG is RNG - but that said, every single one has been on my alts with zero to almost no motif, recipe, etc knowledge - just 8 points to allow crafting highest level writs.
My 1 main char with max crafts in all, most recipes, etc - e.g. 'master crafter', has gotten zero master writ drops.
So my answer is whether the odds or truly low or not, it was worth doing end level writs on alts as that is only way I've gotten master writs so far.
I have two alts that had some partial research done in each line (not much) before I stopped bothering, so I gave them the each the four cheap purple motifs (barbaric, primal, daedric, ancient elf) and decided to try it out. Surprisingly, one of them has gotten two clothing writs and meanwhile my actual master crafter, with almost all motifs and 9 trait research, has only gotten alchemy and enchanting.
So, who knows. The first few traits are so fast to research that you can just have your crafter make them a few things from each line and set them researching whenever you log them in for writs to increase the chances a little.
