I know this has been discussed several times. I've always struggled with making gold in this game. And with homestead out now I really want some gold. Anyone mind sharing some efficient gold farming tips?
Join a trade guild with a trader, one with high standings or prominent holdings if possible. There should be good ones with no fee's just the requirement you sell x amount per month.
Then you have the following options.
Market trade. - Buy low, sell high (you'll need a knowledge of what's in demand and it's value).
Farm in demand sets and sell them. - Some of these sets as perfect items can go for tens to hundreds of k gold (depending on server).
Farm material nodes. - Farm nodes, refine and sell tempers if you have the skills to extract gold ones, if not sell the materials raw.
Sell Blueprints and decorations. - There is a lot of demand for these right now, they're selling well above their actual value.

If you're willing to do it stealing items is a really easy way to make money which can be done at any level, anywhere in the game with no prior knowledge or skill.
I've been making about 3,000 - 4,000 gold a day just spending about 1/2 an hour stealing items on one character and selling them to a fence. It's really quick and easy to do, especially if you can find somewhere with lots of containers and not many NPCs (ships in port are often a good target).
Without putting any skill points into it you can sell 50 items a day to a fence, and the basic generic stolen items are worth 40g each so if you only find 50 of them it'll get you 2,000g, but you'll almost certain find some green items (worth 100g) or even blue (250g) as well.
And you can get 50 items really quickly, without any trespassing or lockpicking or anything risky. The biggest problem I have is actually remembering not to sell all the other stuff, like clothing and armour worth about 5g each until I'm sure I won't be stealing anything more valuable that day.
Because it's so quick it also combines well with other methods of gold farming, or in my case leaves me time to do quests and things.

I don't know if guild prices have caught on, but in the past I would buy up provisioning ingredients for high level green recipes, craft the items, then sell them to NPC merchants for double the cost of the inputs. This is only worth it on PC where you can use an addon to bulk craft provisioning items. Since a large portion of the time is waiting for the addon to craft, you don't have to interact with the game and can multitask.
