February 21st, as of this news post.
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

Updates to ESO (except expansions) are always released on PC/Mac first and then on consoles about 2 weeks later. This is because Microsoft and Sony insist on certifying all updates to make sure it does what it claims to do, works reasonably well and won't break anything outside the game, and that process takes about 2 weeks.

Whereas on PC you're on your own - if you download an update to a program which turns out to be a virus (or just a badly written update) and it breaks everything no one cares but you.

Please don't......you're contradicting and creating confusion specifically because the next release is June 6 for all platforms
Also, it's not accurate to say things occur separate because of Sony and Xbox because the reason is the particular developer

We have frequent and recent examples of other developers releasing updates on all platforms at the same time

Regardless of the developer, console manufacturers do require a third-party certification process and that usually takes 2-3 weeks for a patch.

The only difference is that some developers will "hold back" the PC version of a game and release it when the console version is ready. The danger with that is if console fails certification the PC patch also gets delayed.

I would wager that Zenimax finalise the PC patch and send the patch to console certification at roughly the same time, then patch PC next week and console about two weeks later due to certification delays.

So it's up to the particular developer whether they wish to hold back the PC patch to keep parity or just let the PC version be a few weeks ahead.

I changed it to "Updates to ESO (which are not expansions) are always released on PC/Mac first..." Is that specific enough to avoid confusion?

I didn't think it was necessary to say I was only talking about updates to ESO since that's what the topic (and the entire forum) is about, and I wasn't counting Morrowind since that's obviously different - they have a much longer lead time then so they can get it certified beforehand and they have an obvious interest, from a marketing perspective, in having the same release date for all platforms.

As for it being particular developers who choose to delay releases to consoles do you have a source for that? My understanding has always been that it's because the console manufacturers want to approve the updates and if it's released on PC at the same time it's because the PC release was held back to wait for the console certification process.

I don't mean this as a criticism of console developers by the way, I actually think it's a really good idea. I'm not quite old enough to remember the days before the concept of certification and the badly made games which almost destroyed the whole industry before it got off the ground, but I've read a lot about it and given the choice I'd much rather have someone keeping an eye on the standard of releases.
