I don't like the location of most houses :-(

Why are 80% of the houses in some weird outside area nobody ever goes?
It kind of makes me feel disconnected from the rest of the world. Those houses feel so lonely...

I wish there would be more houses in the big beatiful and lively cities. Where they have pubs, music and inhabitants.

It would be nice if there was an apartment or small house inside the main cities. Something small right in the action.

Maybe something could be added in the future.

Maybe this is crazy, but I'd like to have the option to purchase or rent a room at the inn in most cities.

Goes back to Oblivion, when I could come out of the IC sewers, get a room at the inn, steal all the food, make a few potions, and level Alchemy up to like 20 or something ...

    Sigh.

I think you just answered your own question.

ESO is plagued with lag. Some towns are so bad I don't go into them unless a quest requires it. Putting houses in towns would exacerbate that problem.

One of their probable but unstated goals with housing would be to reduce traffic in towns. With crafting stations, banker and merchant assistants any house is almost as good as a town. All they'd need to be perfect is crafting assignment boards, repair and guild bank options on the assistants and a horse feeding NPC.

And with the larger houses, guilds could gather and have quite a bit of fun in them I'd expect.

I want to play an MMO. Fix the lag instead of putting my house into the desert where it's only me and the scorpions.

Besides there are many cities not that populated but still there is no house. Take Marburk for example. Great city, few people, but no house.

Gardner House is your solution. It's a 3-storied slice of Breton luxury and comfort, neatly tucked within a sprawling urban landscape with immediate access to crafting stations, stables, a large inn and a wayshrine. When in the courtyard of Gardner House, one can hear blacksmiths hammering away, hooves landing on cobblestone, nondescript voices, birds chirping, wind cascading through the rooftops... all just over the high stone wall surrounding the courtyard. Wayrest feels alive. For an urban vibe with all nearby amenities and an *enormous* amount of comfortable indoor space, Gardner House can't be beat.

I was going to say the same thing.

In fact there's several houses which are close to towns, even if they're not actually within the boundary. Not all of those towns offer the full range of services (for example some don't have a bank) but it's something. And then others are close to a wayshrine so even if there isn't a town there you can still get to one quickly.

But this is the problem with offering "only" 39 houses. Everyone has their own preferences and priorities and it's unlikely that range of options will enable everyone to find their perfect combination of size, style, price, location etc.

I spent the entire time housing was on the PTS debating which house to get. In the end I found one I'm happy with but it took a lot of comparing different ones, debating my choices, reconsidering which factors were the most important, trying to open myself up to ones I hadn't originally considered and doing it all again to finally find the right one. (A bit like house hunting in real-life actually. Except I can go back to have another look any time I want, and I know it's not going to be suddenly removed from the market before I make up my mind.)

This may be a negative selling point to you, but it's a positive for me. I actually APPRECIATE how remote my house is. It's part of what attracted me to it. I don't want any homeless dweebs hanging outside my gates all the time ;P

Tell me about it, OP. Marbruk is my fav city, looks so beautiful. Wanted a house there so bad. What did they do? Put a house OUTSIDE the city to mock me. :'( Not buying that one. What for? I wouldn't be living in Marbruk... I'd be living next to the road to Marbruk with no view of the city. Meh.

I absolutely adore that house, its close to being my favourite out of all of them, only... It doesn't have a garden! Even some of the small houses have a garden, and the fact that this one doesn't automatically removes it from my list of potential homes! If it DID have a garden, I wouldn't even be sat here debating on which house to buy, it would 100% be that one!

In regards to houses being near amenities, you have to go to a load screen to exit your house anyway, so going to a load screen just outside the house, or going to a load screen to Belkarth makes no difference to me

Ugh duh its right outside the city. Look at the layout of the town. The residential district is mostly outside of or near the entrance of the city. And Cliffshade is bigger then the box houses so of course its gunna be right outside the city walls. Its still part of marbruk and there is no yard so who cares about the "view"

Apparently I do. When I step outside, instead of being immediately in the city, I have to walk to the city, and I only see its walls from the outside. What I wanted is a house inside the city gates, to feel part of the city which I like the most. Cliffshade is big so it's gonna be outside you say? Look at the Wayrest house. Much bigger, WITH a garden, and still INSIDE Wayrest, a more populous (i.e. laggy) area.

I don't count houses that are outside the walls to be "in-the-city" houses, but that's just my opinion. I'm not saying this is the worst thing ever, just not what I expected/hoped for. Might as well get the Wayrest home for my urban lizards.

    For dominion:
Small Bosmer one is at elden root.
The medium Khajiit one at Rawl'kwa.
That is the two most central locations in the game.

Unfortunately the houses were shoehorned onto the map after it was created. As a result most the real estate in cities is already used for other functions, and have associated NPCs, etc.

One thing that would help I think with the housing, would be to have less solid walls, and more trellis fences where you can see you surroundings, and feel part of the world. Look at the trellis fence on the Cyrodilic Jungle House at the Baandari Trading Post, Malabal Tor, and what a difference it makes to feeling part of the town.

If the Imperial House was at Velyn Harbor instead of Baandari Trading Post (and was designed nicer not with that yucky painted on cobblestone walkway) I would already have it.

Even if I planned on getting the banker, the merchant, the fence, all the crafting stations etc for my house (which I don't plan on) it's still too inconvenient a location. Dark anchor is right there -no thanks. No writ boards, no amenities (bank, crafting tables) - no thanks.

The house itself (the building and price) is acceptable but everything else about it is really disappointing
