Light armor DK's looked down upon?

I've been reading a lot and it seems most people suggest heavy armor magic dk instead of light armor.
Can a light armor magdk still be greatly offensive as a heavy armored one?

You will have more offense in light armor. But most people prefer heavy armor because it provides comparable Magicka sustain to light armor and comparable damage, while also giving you a ton of stamina sustain, extra health, extra healing received, and a crapload of resistances.

Yes, light armor can definitely work with Magicka Dragonknights in PvP, but the advantages of heavy armor tend to outweigh the losses.

If we're talking about PvE, though, then light armor is the undisputed king, since you don't really need the resistances, the health, or the stamina sustain if you're a DPS.

Wow..when you say it like that then it seems Heavy Armor is Op.
Thanks for the information. Helps a lot!

They nerfed it a bit to bring it more in line with the other armor weights, but it still pulls pretty far ahead of light armor for MagDKs in my opinion.

The mag sustain in light is far higher in light than heavy. This is mostly due to the cost reduction. Also, damage significantly higher due to pen and crit. For a hyper offensive play style, light armor is ideal. It is tricky to survive though. You need a ward, because you won't have stamina sustain in light. Also I suggest using mist form. It cuts off recovery but is a life saver due to the root immunity and damage reduction. I have been running light for a while. I'm not the best, I've had my off days, but, more often than not, I do well and kill a lot of people without using ult.

I would say heavy armor if you're new to the class. Since it leaves more room for error.

Light armor if you're experienced. Good gameplay can offset the positives heavy gives a lot, so you can focus more on the extra damage which hits a lot more in 5 light.

I stopped using heavy armor in PvP like 2 months ago and haven't looked back. To me, it feels like a crutch. There is no way you can burst people down as quickly as you can in 5 light. I don't even use skoria anymore since it's another crutch and my dmg is high enough without it. I will switch to it though If I end up in a group with a healbot, but I usually end up playing solo/small scale a lot and build for that play style.

With proper build planning I'm still able to hit 21k physical resistance in light, and with a Bloodspawn proc I can get up to like 27k phys, 30+ spell resistance. I do miss out on some stam sustain, but Tri Pots + BS + Igneous/Fossilize Spam gets you your stam back.

I will say the room for error in L.A. is definitely much greater, but the end result is too noticeable to ever go back to H.A. With the incoming H.A. nerfs I will 100% be in L.A. during Homestead.

@Moglijuana how much max magicka do you run with in LA and how far into bastion do you feel is essential to your viability in LA? Also are you a vamp?

I have 39k max with no Inner Light. I'm still working on golding out 3 more pieces, but I sit at like 4.2k SD fully buffed. Currently I have 30 points into bastion but abuse mist form (yes I'm vamp) a lot so my shield strength is stronger when coupled with that. My favorite reset combo is Dodge Roll - > Dampen -> Healing Ward -> Mist which gives a good chunk of health as soon as Mist ends. If you have a tri pot up after that, boom, we got a party =D.

I might give it another go. I tried it briefly on the PTS but I only fought DK's and the fire damage was wrecking my shields, even with 30%+ shield mitigation. I PvE tank on my main so I have never had the room for bastion, but 30 isn't that much to be missing. Whats your health at?

Yea, other MagDK's are somewhat of a nuisance to fight 1v1 and I have to switch some skills/monster sets around to duel, but open world Bloodspawn carries me past their fire damage usually, enough for me to ulti drop them before they do at least. On my front bar I sit at 23.5k and back bar a little over 25k with entropy.

What do you run that gets your hp up to 23.5k? I set at 21 in light with bistat food. I do only have 460 cp, so that might be a factor.

From my experience.. if you're up against a zerg, it doesn't matter what you're wearing.. however. I have won and lost duels with light armor, and won and lost some in heavy.. i feel like I'm a lot more tanky on my stam dk than I am on my Magicka dk. Even if they are both sword and board heavy armor. I think if you can get up to at least 20k resistances on light armor, you should be fine.
