[Help] Nightblade Tank

Antrix
Antrix
Hi all! Have a quesion about Nightblade Tank build and a character generally. What exactly:

1. Is this character are viable? How much? Can he compete with DK?
2. Which build is preferred for this type of tank, stamina or magika? (I want to play as Imperial, so maybe stamina build?)
3. Is there any good guide for NB tank leveling and endgame content (solo/dungeons)?

Best regards!
Anny

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    1- Yes . Meh . Not really .
    2- Hybrid .
3- Go as Magicka DD . Self healing is always good for leveling and dungeons .

Thank you for your answer! But i don't like dd in any mmo as "class". Im playing mostly as healer (and playing well if i could say so, almost 9+ years), but i want to respek to Tank... and in this case i want to try NB, cuz it's very interesting class  I've founded this video guide to hybrid NB Tank (all points to stamina, but high magika regen). Can you watch this vid and write your opinion about this? Can i use that guide as "starting point" for long ESO tanking journey?

Well , I don't have to watch the video . As soon as I saw the helm and shoulder , I can easily say that is a PvP build . In PvE as a tank , your job is to support team . I think best starting point would be a ultigen tank . 2 Blood Spawn , 5 Tava's Favor and 5 Akaviri Dragonguard (or Ebon Armory for more defensive support) . Ultigen tanks are easy to play and still viable . I played with all 4 classes , Magicka and stamina and believe me , Nightblade tanks are insane when it comes to sustain . Only place you will be having issues is axes in AA since they won't give you time to light attack to get some resources from Siphoning Attacks . You can solve that with Sturdy items and 1h/s ultimate though . No problems at all .

Your skill bars should look like this more or less :

    1h/s front bar :

    1- Pierce Armor
    2- Heroic Slash
    3- Refreshing Path
    4- Swallow Soul
    5- Absorb Magic
    Ulti- Aggressive Horn

    1h/s back bar :

    1- Mirage
    2- Siphoning Attacks
    3- Inner Rage
    4- Mystic Orb
    5- Flex Spot (Absorb Magic/Turn Undead/Sanguine Altar/Bone Shield/Echoing Vigor/Retreating Manuever/Purge)

    Hope this helps .

Liofa, thank you so much! I want to ask you for a huge favor... can you please make some "template" build on skill calculator? I mean, with attributes points etc.

I think this site is better . You should create an account here and make the same build because sometimes I forget and delete builds . Good luck ! This thread made me miss my Nightblade tank ^^

I have tried tanking with NightBlade for last year. It's fine for dungeons and normal trials.

No comparison to DK for vet trials. Sorry. I really wanted to make it work, but after leveling a DK I see now why it's the obvious preferred vet trial tank choice.

It's hard leveling as a supporting role. Better to be a DPS. In my experience. You just don't have enough skill points to be effective. It starts becoming painful around level 40.

Hey Antrix i play a stam based nb tank and i do so in the trial grp i'm in. Tanked Hel Ra Hm, Sanctum Hm, Archive Hm, vet mol and our first trys at mol hm with him successfully (as i did on my dk) in the one tamriel patch. Also did vmsa few times, and best score i had by now without changing cp and stuff, was 544k(dd gear).

    Lets get into your questions.
1: Yes. Pretty solid. Its definitly harder to play. Almost (he´s different, ill go into that later)
    2. While a Magicka Build is way more fun, entertaining and can offer some nice Grp Heals he loses a lot of the stuff inside a Trial. I know there are Trial NB Tanks based on Magicka but to be honest the most of them dont wear sets that benefit the grp.
I play as i said earlier as Stam NB (Imperial), Gear is 5x Ebon/5xAlkosh/2x Monsterset(few choices here)
    3. There is one on Youtube for Leveling from LoterkESO he has also a guide on how to level as tank https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMItXW_kk8Q. For Dungeons i sometimes use the same setup as i do in trials but its not optimal, there are setups i gonna try with Homestead Patch(rework build for dungeons).

My Guide isnt finished by now, but still in progress as i need to find time(same for actuall trials gameplay vids), wich is kinda hard if u have a little daughter to take care of

Now lets get into detail on your questions, can he compete with a Dk, well they r not on the same playing field, i find a dk is easier to use, has almost never to drop block, and has fine ressource management.
(K)nightblades have to do a bit more, most crucial part is to learn the attack patterns of all Trial Bosses if possible (not that hard, did the same on TERA and they had no red circles and stuff in the beginning so that was a good training).
Why u should learn them, well the reasen is, for ressource management u sometimes want to use Siphoning Attacks.
This means when u know that the boss wont attack u the next moments u gotta drop block and cancel in a light attack.
Now some may say that is risky, but i have to disagree, i never died in a trial because i was throwing in a canceled light attack, u just gotta know when to do it! But even if u dont use siphoning attacks, u can sustain pretty fine with syergies that trigger the undaunted passive, potions, and i have never called for a spear in a trial or dungeon.

Another big thing u miss, and thats the only thing i miss, is the Shield that the dk got. Not for the 5% stam return, not for the 4 ult u get all 6 seconds when using it, but for the shielding effect when fighting Warrior in Hel Ra HM. Only alternative u got as a stam nb tank is Bone Shield (warrior is by now the only fight where i use it). Yes, it costs stamina (*** that) but it hasnt screwed up my ressource management until now ^^. Nice effect is if u have melee dd´s that are not dumb as ***, it provides a nice synergy fro the 1 or 2 stamchars left in the Trial Group Meta ^^.

I´m kinda running out of time now, and there´s way more i want and need to type, but i think ill do that after i have been working(so much more stuff to type regarding nb tank). You are welcome to write me PM´s or ask further questions, i will start to record some Gameplay vids of Trial tanking and load them up, so u may see if this will be the tank u want to play.
My Raidleader wasnt that happy when i told em i switch from my dk(wich, sorry guys, is just boring to me) but since i get the job done, deliver grp support he dosnt give a *** on wich class i tank.

If u decide to go for a DK Tank, then i´ll recommend videos from Liofa & Woeler.

    Have a nice day

Lol. My friend guildmate tanked vetAA last sunday with NB when heal was dead holding 6 axes for more then a minute while heals were resurected. So NB can tank vetTrials without any problems.

I don't pretend to be an overly good tank, but I did tank vet AA (not a hard mode, though) with magicka NB tank without suffering a wipe (and occasionally without a healer).
And this is my build (only the relevant skills):

    http://eso-skills.com/skill?z=LDPnp5dx@Umq2oW%DTfeZu6@UqTYhu&p=90629072908290929162917291829192926292729282929203620372038203920397315131623172318231921252124212321222121320322132214221512162217121813051306330733081325232624052406242524262511351235133&a=244000&c=yafgiuk&b=Vampire_knight&j=t&q=007&w=33&m=8

It's a pure magicka, real permablock build.
Champion points' distribution (as of 7 of February, so 600 altogether):
    100 Hardy
    100 Elemental defender
    100 Blessed
    100 Elemental expert
    100 Shadow ward
    100 Arcanist
    Sets are:
    5 Bahraha's curse
    5 Resilient yokeda
2 Scourge Harverster (can be swiped with Swarm mother if you do not feel enough hate from mobs)
6 armor pieces are divine, 1 is sturdy, weapons are defending, shields infused. All jewelry is healthy and enchanted for block cost reduction. All armor and shields are enchanted for max health. Swords are enchanted for shielding, but whatever, I almost never do light or heavy or, God forbid, weapon attacks
Blame it on my misspent youth.

Yes, it can be done. It's quite a bit easier on the DK is all I'm trying to convey.

    For trials, dk is best.

For anything else, it blows away DKs.

I have a solid build in my signature. Will barely change next patch.
