They adopted a dynamic pricing model after people were disappointed with the rigid pricing brackets on the PTS. This makes some of the crown store furnishings a lot more palatable.

    Could you give an example?

    Pricing used to go like this:

    Green = 50 crowns
    Blue = 150 crowns
    Purple = 400 crowns

    Now you can get green items from 10 to 70 crowns, purple items from 260 crowns to 410 crowns, etc. A purple cup doesn't cost the same as a purple bed anymore.

    I very much disagree with this. In my view they doubled and tripled the price of many things that the PTS showed were going to be popular.
    This is particularly evident in the 'structure' items. Orcish block went from 50 to 95 crowns. Planks went from 10 to 30 crowns. I know these are only an extra few crowns but these items will be purchased in large quantities by people looking to do some proper home editing
    ZOS asked us to show us our designs on the PTS... we did and they said "oh, I see you like building your own structures... quick, bump up the price!!!"
    Greedy, greedy, greedy.

    People think PTS is allowing people to give their feedback to ZOS and get things changed before launch.

    In fact PTS is nothing but a large scale completely cost-free focus group that tells them exactly which prices to increase before launch.

    Sickening.

    It wouldn't be a very useful focus group since everyone had free crowns on the PTS.

    I literally bought every item in the store with crowns.

    Can't you buy building materials with gold?

    For me, almost every item I wanted went down in price.

    Do you even?

    It's not about the actual purchases, it's about finding out what materials and furnishings people actually use and value on the PTS. That's what a focus group is for.

    Why do you think they release Crown Store monthlies 'coming soon' without prices?

    Why do you think we were teased the Crown Store exclusive homes on the PTS, and not seeing their prices in game on live right now?

    All they're doing is gauging the interest for these things, and asking the question "just how much can we charge for this item to maximise profits".

    Yes, it is a business. It's a service provider and as a customer I am voicing my opinion that upping the price of a popular product by 100-200% represents bad value to me. Particularly since I can see no justification other than price fixing to raise the price on popular and high volume purchases. Also, I doubt I represent a unique view on this. As a business, it's in their best interest to know if a section of the market feels they have missed the mark with their pricing.

    So much this. You can look at the graduated ratio of gold cost of the homes that was set before the PTS and contrast that against the final Crown cost on Live and see the inverse relationship that mirrors the player feedback about where value existed in the list of homes.

    For better or worse, he PTS is 100% about pricing strategies for new content.

    In general I was pleased with this change, it made the prices of a lot of items more sensible. I was annoyed (and amused) that the planks and stone blocks/slabs have all tripled in price but in a purely selfish sense that doesn't bother me because I'll likely continue to do my experimentation on the PTS and only use gold to buy exactly the number I need on Live.

    It wouldn't be a very useful focus group since everyone had free crowns on the PTS.

    I literally bought every item in the store with crowns.

    Sure if they relied on downloading data on how many times each item was purchased it wouldn't tell them much. But the PTS section of the forum gives them a huge amount of qualitative data to go along with the figures.

    The structural items are a prime example of this, especially the planks and stone blocks. They're not attractive items and if you look at how ZOS uses them in the game they're fairly limited - you might find a plank leaning against a wall to give an area a 'disused' look, or stone slabs inlaid in the ground to create stepping stones.

    But for many players on the PTS these quickly became our go-to items for building. Someone actually made an entire house in the sky almost entirely from wide planks and stone slabs. Other people used them to make raised decks, lofts, stairs, balconies...all sorts of additions to houses. And many of us expressed an intention to do the same when the update was released (particularly creating raised decks and walkways to see over the outside wall).

    So ZOS saw these items would be much more popular than they'd expected (and in a way which suggests you might find you want 1 or 2 more at short notice, making a crown store purchase more likely than tracking down a merchant)...and in response they quietly tripled the price.

    Sure they're still only 30 crowns each. It's not enough of an increase to be prohibitive, of course it isn't, that would be counter productive. But it means they'll get 3 times as many crowns for those items as they would have done if we hadn't provided them that feedback.

    Agree, there's structure items on the house furnishing merchants for gold, you need to check each zone as some have different items.
