Simple question for Zenimax

Why are name changes so expensive, why 2500 crowns? To change simple text, that price just seems very wrong, inappropriate, greedy even. I wouldn't put that past 500 crowns, imo.
Really, though, I don't want to change my name, just one letter in it, that's why this really sucks.

Another thought is, if Zenimax won't budge on the price, at least give away 1 free name change per character, I mean damn, people make mistakes... I don't think I'm saying anything at all unreasonable.

I'm with you. Character name changes should cost like $1.

Probably because they don't want people changing them every single day.

Just be glad they offer the service, there are other MMO's out there which don't let you change it at all*.

    * Unless you're ticketed as having an offensive name.

I created a second character last year and chose the wrong class, so I used her as a pack mule and made a 3rd character, like a clone, and gave her the same name with one vowel different. I deleted the mule after a while and would like to use the name again. I haven't mentioned the name because some people are a$$h0l3S and may take it to be just that lol.

I don't see why they wouldn't want people changing their names often, if that's the case, it's a consistent profit for barely anything substantial. By charging what's probably equal to $20, which is obviously a big waste of money, they are guaranteeing less profit.

I mean seriously, I'd rather wipe my ass with a $20 just to say I did it, rather than spend $20 to change simple text in a video game.

What Zenimax is currently doing, I call shenanigans... lol

Because people are frequently *** and trolls.

Gosh, I don't understand why allowing people to constantly change their names would be a problem. Just because character name "Robs-guild-banks" gets a reputation for joining guilds and cleaning out the guild bank and running, letting him change his name everytime he does something like that is obviously fine. I mean, other guilds would totally know he's the same jackass who wiped out other guilds, right?

Of course there are legitimate reasons someone might want to change their account name. ZOS lets you do that. Change it every time you log on? Shouldn't be a need to do that.

If you deleted the mule character, and want to use the name again, you should be able to do that. I've deleted characters, made a new one, and used the name of the one I deleted. Why can't you use the name again?

For the record, the scenario you offer would never be a problem on Xbox; our characters are tied to our gamertags, and both are visible to other people. So for us, it wouldn't matter how many times we change our names, we'd always be identifiable to others. I feel like it'd be the same for PS4, but I don't recall PC having any such identifiers in place. Maybe that should be the part they fix: make it so that you see everyone's account name when doing things like add them to guilds or trade or something. You'd then know if you were dealing with a repeat offender.

JKorr's examples aren't an exhaustive list of the way people could and indeed have abused name change mechanics in online games.

There's huge potential for abuse which is why the cost to change is not trivial.

It may suck for your particular circumstances but that doesn't make ZOS greedy, wrong or inappropriate.
