The Great Farming of Our Age (HomeStead)

Hey All

How many of you are currently enjoying the new far... I mean... Update?

I'll be honest, I'm kind of upset. All this hype over HomeStead and all the great many possibilities of furniture crafting, placing, customization and so on and yet... My 350k+ house sits completely void of any interior anything. When TES fans and ESO players said we wanted housing, and when ZOS announced all it and all the great things we could do with it, an endless farming and grind was NOT what anyone had in mind. I thought there would at least be merchants to buy almost any kind of furniture or decor you could possibly ask for, but so far, all I've found in Home Goods merchants are trees, rocks, crates, barrels and baskets. Oh! And a small square table and a round chair. That's literally it.

Everything else I have to craft apparently. Which is fine, I love crafting and I was all pumped to craft my own furniture. But then... My guild mates tell me I have to farm these so called blueprints through grinding mobs or looting stuff around Tamriel. Okay, I said. No big deal. I'll go to my favorite grind spot. Some guildies were talking about picking up a few blueprints per hour. So I spent quite a bit of time in my grind spot and got... Nothing. Zilch. So I go shopping. Find nothing. So I go looting. Break into houses, pickpocket and murder NPC civilians, run through delves looking through every container of every kind, kill mobs and bosses and still. Absolutely. Nothing.

After SIX HOURS of my house just sitting empty, I said screw it and logged off. Guys. I still have ZERO blueprints to speak of. Six hours. Down the drain for NOTHING. I was all excited when I got up this morning thinking I was gonna log on, buy a house, maybe buy some plans for furniture if I'm lucky but no. Nothing.

This Homestead thing, in my opinion so far, is the biggest joke and offense to ESO players. I'm completely and thoroughly annoyed, infuriated and disappointed in ZOS. I would be okay with it if I could buy blueprints with in game gold. But I can't even do that much yet. Six hours. For nothing. I don't have time for this kind of garbage from ZOS. This is a slap in the face and it's ridiculous.

So, in case ZOS reads this, PLEASE do one (or both) of two things:

1: Significantly increase the drop rate of blueprints throughout Tamriel, regardless of how players are searching for them.
2: Make them available to purchase via in game gold through NPC merchants. This wouldn't be that hard. Am I shopping in Auridon? Have one merchant in a constistent stationary location that sells just about EVERYTHING a creative player could ask for, in the style of that zone's race. So like Auridon, have that zone's merchant sell all items in the Altmeri style. And Nord in the Rift. Or Redguard in the Alikr' Desert.

I cannot stress this enough. This is the most frustrating experience I've ever had with ESO, and that says a lot considering I've been a part of it since beta. I was there for the gosh awful, bug infested launch. I've been a sub this entire time. I've seen and been there for the ups and downs and this was going to be so exciting and it's the biggest let down in the history of the game. Please please do something about this. Cause I spent 350K+ on a house I literally can't do anything with...

I spent a couple hours robbing and killing and got a few, nothing better than blue quality (and it was a orc plate lol). I think a lot of the frustration is so many people looting/stealing at the moment. I guess it will cool off after some time.

In six hours of running around farming, killing creatures, etc. I got one green writ.

Homestead will become the ultimate of all grinds because I have no interest in "furnishing" my home which for the most part is the same as a costume.

I also got one master writ early in the day and when I turned it it, major disappointment.

I will play the game as usual but my priority definitely will not be furnishing a place.

I haven't had an issue with obtaining blue prints, my issue is with the crazy low drop rate on things like heartwood which is essential in furniture crafting. The new mats don't even drop from surveys or refining mats, it's so grindy it's ridiculous. Expect the fun to wear thin fast, let's hope they address the drop rate issues.

Interesting. As I commented on someone else's forum about having the exact same issue you have, I haven't had any issue obtaining the materials like heartwood. Once I realized I needed the Master Harvester achievement in order to buy items which I assume will allow me to place crafting stations in my house, I went out and ran around just collecting ores, wood, runes and clothing stuff. Didn't spend anymore than maybe 30 minutes doing it and got a little bit from each one. So that just seems odd that some people are having trouble with one thing, while others struggle with finding something else.

I could NOT agree more! And for me, I've ALWAYS struggled with drop rates. Every single game I've ever played I get the short end of the stick on drops. When ESO released Dwemer armor I had this exact issue. People would be farming the same Dwemer ruin and finding several pages every hour. I'd get none. So yeah. So people have personally awful RNG and I hope ZOS fixes it cause this is already miserable and anything but fun.

Spent a hour stealing in and around the bank in Vuklhel Gaurd and got about 8 blue prints one purple 3 blue and 4 green.. Apprently I am very lucky? But the drop rate for stuff like heartwood needs to improve like ALOT I suggest they make it 100% or close because this is insane atm.. I do think this will be adressed next patch because I hear A LOT of people about this

Give it a few weeks and there will be loads in stores.

Housing isn't a thing you do in a week, it's mean't to be something you gradually work towards.

You slowly get blue prints, mats and make furniture. You can then upgrade your house if you want to from small to medium to large etc...

    It's a long time thing.

My recommendation, that no one will of course follow, is to put off housing for a long while and instead profit from all the "Firsts" and "instant gratification" players that want everything in the first week.

Gouge the hell out of everything you get.

I'm still pretty noob, but none of the passives anywhere or CP has any affect on the drop rates for this type of thing? Pretty sure answer is no way, but thought I'd throw that out there.

I'm very disappointed with this. I appreciate that they want us to grind for (or buy in the Crown store) the good stuff, but would it be too much to ask for some very simple basic items to be buyable with gold? Not even being able to buy a bed is seriously bad.

Housing was always the casual part of other mmo's. Here it is another chore to achieve something useless. But it is optional and not needed anyway.

Still, I would be comfortable with just a chair and a table and some barrels IF I COULD ACTUALLY PUT SOMETHING IN THE BARRELS.

Exactly. Even if it's just a standard, ugly bed, ugly bookshelves, ugly table. At this point, I wouldn't care. ZOS just needs to throw us a bone and offer SOMEthing here. I couldn't believe that store with rocks and trees like... My mind was blown in a very bad way.

I just did my writs, did the house quest on my main then logged on and started levelling my alt as normal looting everything.

I have a number of nice and interesting blueprints now. They're just like recipes, sure there is nothing now but give it a couple of months and everyone will be vendor trashing those greens again because there are so many of them.

Yep I feel your pain. I did the same thing. Played for 6 hours (I should be in bed right now but just logged off).

Did writs on 3 characters, all have blacksmith, cloth and wood to 50 with skill points in to get the high end mats nodes; one is my master crafter with all traits researched, everything at 50 with skill points and know almost every motif (all except Drauger and Akaviri and the ones that came out today). I couldnt bring myself to do the 4th character I have that has level 50 cloth, wood, metal and skill points invested. A friend of mine did the writs 2x (yesterdays and todays) on 4 characters and got 4 master writs. He always gets tons of drops like that, while my account is always cursed to get nothing. I have seen at least 3 people that have gotten enough writ things to get a test dummy already. I cant even get ONE writ!

I ran my crafter, who has the treasure CP passive, around picking up all the treasure maps I had. Finally got a small purple picture out of a random chest I found. On another character I did manage a green blueprint for a bowl stealing out of containers in the bank in Auridon.

I bought a bed from the crown store list in the housing editor just so I had something in that sad little room in Daggerfall besides the pile of wood I purchased for the quest.

Right now I am seriously questioning investing anything into a bigger house. I mean, I dont expect things overnight or really fast but I know I need the master writ things to get stuff from the writ vendor. I didnt get even one master writ to do.
Seems like Ill have to never sleep and turn the game into a full time job to do anything with a house. Just soooo tired of grinding everything all the time.

And I still have to start grinding the new motifs before people get them all and stop doing the content for them.....sigh

I have to agree that this is too much farming for the most simple things.
I found a candle BP and a brazier BP (brazier is awesome, but no bed...) and I found an axe and a fishing spear. Oh, and a fish. I checked almost every furniture and achievement tracker (and I have unlocked almost everything in my time since early access). No beds, no tables, no chairs, apart from that stool and teatable... I am sure many blueprints will be available via guild trader in a while, also the stuff I need to craft them, and I guess to evenly distribute all the things among the horde of players droprates have to be low, BUT...

... the personal experience is a frustrating farming spree in the hands of RNGsus and LOOTcifer.

Our homes are still empty, and the real point is: It's no fun.

Did you expect to loot all furniture plans within six hours? When reading the patch notes it was so obvious this would be an extended grindfest.

And it has to be this way. If things dropped everywhere all the time, prices would drop extremely fast and no-one would craft anything because it wouldn't pay off. Furnishing is meant to be a community effort. Watch the guild stores.

I have personally logged over 40 hours of treasure chest farming CoA for a burning Spellweave inferno staff, I would say sharpened inferno staff but I have yet to get any inferno staffs so being particular about trait seems a little redundant.

This on top of easily 30 or so purely organic runs of CoA 1and 2 as they were the dailies and maybe another 20 - 40 hours of farming runs of CoA 1 with guidmates looking for burning Spellweave.

I'm guessing easily 100 hours of farming, PS4 doesn't have homestead yet but Inimagine the grinding will meet this bar which is why I have no plans to buy a house or furniture with crowns or gold.

Actually loosely talling the bourse I've spent on the quest for one item makes me feel mentally challenged.

I can't imagine furniture is worse then Burning Spell Weave but hey it might just be.
