How "Furnished" is a Furnished House?

I do not have a clear understanding of what all is in a furnished house. Are all rooms furnished with something or is it more like one bedroom, one living room, and one kitchen furnished package that's given to use once we purchase a furnished home?

A "furnished" house means that all rooms and exteriors have had furniture pre-placed. Beds, desks, counters, clutter, rugs, the whole nine yards... you walk in and it looks like any NPC's house you'd see in the game, except you can select the furniture and move it around however you please. You can also add more or take pieces away.

You will still probably want to add furniture and knick knacks to the house. But it will give you something to start with.

Furnished houses do not come with the DPS skeleton or crafting stations. Most of the furnishings will be in the same racial style as the house. Other than that what you get depends on the house. You can preview all of them both furnished and unfurnished before buying and it's well worth looking at what you get for your money.

Every room will have at least some stuff in it, most will look quite full even though the furnished houses I looked at only used around 1/2 the total (non-subscription) item limit. I think this effect is achieved mainly by putting things in the middle of the room instead of against the walls.

And once you've bought it you're able to move the furniture around, remove any or all of it or add new stuff exactly like you can if you decorated it yourself.

It's crafted. The recipe for it is acquired by doing master writs and buying it from the master writ vendor.

Not very and they use way too much "filler" in my opinion. That being crates, barrels, baskets and bags. Who actually wants those things in your personal HOUSE? Especially when you can't even loot them? Not worth it in my opinion.

Apparently you can buy the DPS skeletons through the housing editor for 1500 crowns though and avoid the crafting grind!

I'd have a few, if only because a bunch of sacks and boxes is cheaper than buying the display food and more realistic IMO - even in ye olde times people didn't store most food out in the open (certainly not raw meat), they kept it sealed away. So it makes the kitchen look like it's fully stocked even though you can't actually keep any food in your house.

But even I wouldn't go for the big heaps of boxes and bags ZOS seems to like putting everywhere.

Personally I wouldn't buy any of the houses furnished. Partially because you can't do a lot with a fully furnished house so finding/crafting furnishings and adding them gradually is most of the fun but also because I didn't like any of the layouts. It was sometimes helpful to preview them furnished to see how ZOS imagined the space being used (it was especially helpful for understanding how they defined 'rooms' with so few internal walls). But if it was mine I'd want to make so many changes I may as well not bother getting it furnished.

It sounds like it varies from house to house. I played around with a couple on the PTS, and I remember the furnished houses only taking about a third of the non-ESO+ cap. Didn't record the exact numbers, unfortunately.

So...bought a furnished medium house. Cannot interact with any of the chairs provided only benches. Can use one of the beds and not the canopy (nord) bed. Cannot interact with any bookcases, chests, or other items aside from turning "lights" on and off. Looks nice...but as with all things done with the game this past year...well short of expectations.

Well dang. I wonder why you can't interact with those things?

You should be able to sit on the chairs, but you might need to move them slightly because they might be too close to desks/tables/walls etc.

Unless they've changed it since the last build on the PTS you can't actually use any of the beds, only stand on top of them and use the /sleep emote to make it look like you're sleeping on the bed. And no, you couldn't do that with the canopy beds because there isn't enough space to stand on top of it.

You can't interact with shelves and chests and things because there is no storage included. Apparently this might be added at some point in the future but we don't know when or how it will work or if it'll be available to all houses right away or something you have to buy/earn separately.

Actually...found the answer. The placing of the "pre-furnished" items causes part of the problem. You need to move things around (for example chairs) in order to make them functional. Still trying to figure out how to "use" a canopy bed as it appears the canopy placing precludes actually getting onto the bed.
A bit more investigation...beds do not appear to have a "Use" hook and as previously pointed out...depending on the bed are apparently not usable, the same appears to be the case for bookcases, end tables, etc.

As a note: You can't interact with bookshelves themselves, but you CAN get books to put in those bookshelves, which will make them interactable. I haven't tested it myself, though: I believe you can find any completed Shalidor's Library sets at mystics? Someone who has tested that can correct me.

I've had a hard time finding out what I want to know about furnished items, but this post helps a lot - thank you! I have a few remaining questions.
    • Once removed, can furnished items be placed in another home?
    • Can you place crafting mats for provisioning, or are there furniture recipes for placeable food?
    • Items that are lootable in the world are not in your home? If not, then sacks, baskets, crates, and boxes seem worthless.
Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats.

Yes. The only thing you can't do is sell them.

Can you place crafting mats for provisioning, or are there furniture recipes for placeable food?

You can't place provisioning mats (or any mats) but you can buy or craft food which is placable.

Items that are lootable in the world are not in your home? If not, then sacks, baskets, crates, and boxes seem worthless.

These items are not lootable in your home. You also cannot put anything inside them. Their only purpose is to decorate your house - to make it look like you have stuff stored there.
