Hey all, I have access to all races but I have a question...
I am returning to the game and when I play a game I love being ranged / mage dps. However, I want to be versatile, so if I'm bored, I easily breeze through PvE content and compete successfully in PvP.

What class / race / campaign should I make that'll fit my current desires?

Please note, not too interested in Healing.Thank you!

All classes can be played well, theres no one size fits all. You want a sorc, look up some videos on it. Pvp is just a cesspool of cheap folks desperate for a cheap kill.

High Elf Magicka Sorcerer is my vote, but I'm pretty biased ;) Lots of good build videos around if you just check Youtube.

I like tanking so I would go with nord/imperial/red guard and dk/templar

    What's changing with the update?

Sorry, I'm looking to get back into the game, don't really know where to start, do you have a link or resource?

The patch notes should be up soon (tm).

To my knowledge both sorcerer, nightblade, and templar (all 3 magicka specs) can be played in the "ranged mage" style. I do believe, however that Sorcerer does it best.

Ranged magic is really 2 options, Magic Sorc and Magic Nightblade. The quick and dirty is that sorc is a little stronger in PVE from and endgame DPS standpoint, and Nightblade is a little more versatile in PVP. I say that because nightblades really have a skill for just about everything. Sorcs have tight bar space because they typical use a few toggled abilities. The real versatility here is about whether you want to mess with a pet build.

In PVE, both are excellent for nice easy 4-man stuff, as both give great self heals. Sorc pulls higher DPS is trials and is better if you want to solo group content. For normal PVE solo content, both can breeze through it.

For races, I would make a sorc Altmer and a NB Dunmer.

I would say a dunmer magica nightblade, but that is because I play that myself and enjoy it. Personally I like to run in Azura's Star (non-cp campaign) and Trueflame (cp campaign).
