Since it's Morrowind, can we get spears/polearms?

well they dont even need to introduce a new weapon line...theyvcan just toss them in the 2H category, worst case.

Historically, many spears were wielded in one hand with a shield. This proved to be very effective because it offered a reach advantage, along with protection if/when one got past the spearhead.
    With cold regards,

    Everyone.
Templar has an entire skill line dedicated to spears but you could argue it's uses also consider polearms

If ZOS could make spears magicka based, while polearms stamina based, that would be awesome, since I feel magicka should have a melee weapon too, or choose one weapon only to add (spear/polearm), make them both scale of magicka and stamina and each skill would have stamina/magicka morph and passives that benefits both.

Just my wishful thinking, not sure if it would work.

I completely forgot that Morrowind (2002) had spears. I don't think ZOS added any new weapon typed to the game. Unless that is a surprise they are still holding for a later date.

So either they are added as another weapon variant like maces and swords, meaning they come in 1h and 2h and are used like any other of those weapons (i.e. with a shield, dual wield or two handed) and will just get their own bonus added to the heavy weapons passives (more reach for all skills? crit dmg bonus?).

Or they get their own skill line like bows, which would open up all kinds of possibilities how they could be used. While this might be the best option, it would also mean we couldn't use spears with a shield.

By the way, I wish maces/axes/swords were as diverse as the three variants of destruction staves. Axes and maces see very little play I believe, even daggers aren't that popular.

Technically, spears are already in the game.

And I'm not going to be facetious and say "lol Templars already have them".

There's an Argonian in the Hollow City who occasionally practises with a spear. And there's spear models all over, especially on ships.

So I'd say it's probably not much of a stretch that we could get them, I just don't think we will.

Agreed, it took them just a week to make spears for Skyrim, why it takes so long to put them in eso :)

1:30 I remember my excitement seeing this

Spears disappeared after Morrowind, I bet ZOS intentionally treats this stuff like a mystery of the Dwemers - noone knows why they are gone, but it's desired by everyone, it rolls and people talk and there is still things like this "under construction". Part of their marketing plan I believe...

    I'll say again:

Add polearms to the 2h skill line with the heavy weapons passive increasing weapon critical rating while wielding a polearm (this makes them like daggers for dw, and fills out the missing bonus for 2h). Add in new animations when using a polearm to make more sense with the abilities - polearms are held differently (need a different idle/running stance) and swung differently (need new light/heavy attack animations and new anims for cleave, uppercut, and reverse slice).

Add spears to the 1h/shield skill line (maybe require a shield be equipped in the off hand before allowing a spear to be equipped, that way you cant use them with dual wield which'd just be silly). Again, add new idle, running, light/heavy attack, and ability attack animations to make sense with a weapon based on stabbing, and you're golden.

With the 1h spear/shield thing, I'd go as far as to modify or change one of the passives in the tree to give bonuses based on what weapon you're using with your shield:
If using sword/shield: blocking an attack gives you a damage increase on your next light/heavy attack or 1h/shield ability.
If using axe/shield: blocking an attack makes your next light or heavy attack hit all enemies around you (spin attack).
If using mace/shield: Increases your damage with basic shield bash and the 1h/shield bash ability.
If using spear/shield: Increases the range of your light/heavy attack and puncture by 2 meters.

I kinda like this pillow's pattern showing primal Argonian warrior with a spear :)
