Looking for fun well rounded class suggestion

Returning from a year and bit... or more. Currently have a 50 Stamblade, but I've been considering starting over with something else. Definitely prefer dps / survivability, and the ability to solo, however also fit nicely into a group. Was thinking mag sorc or stam templar, but have never tried them before. Anyways any and all suggestions are most welcome!

"Fun" is so subjective that it's hard to make suggestions. I love using this site to play with new skill build ideas though.

As a solo PVE casual player, I've got three character builds that I find insanely fun to play right now:

    1) Magicka Nightblade with dual daggers - High spell crit from the Magelight passive, I use Mark Target to reduce an enemy's defence, trigger Merciless Resolve to boost my damage, Teleport Strike in, Sap Essence for an AOE that also boosts my damage, then four light or heavy attacks to make Merciless Resolve morph - summoning a spectral bow for colossal single target damage on par with an ult's damage. I can also cast Magelight before summoning the bow to boost the bow's damage even further.

    2) Stamina Sorceror with 2h sword - Expert Hunter for the passive weapon crit. Cast Surge to boost weapon damage by 20% and heal me for a huge amount every time I crit, as often as every second. Lightning Form for a defensive boost that also has passive AOE damage (and can proc the heal from Surge), Critical Charge for a quick entry into combat or just for a guaranteed crit (so guaranteed heal), and Reverse Slash morphed for the AOE damage, so as soon as one enemy in a group is below 50% health it's carnage time for the whole lot of them. I have my weapon crit rating at almost 50% with this build, so although defence is fairly low I'm constantly self healing for massive amounts.

    3) Stamina Dragonknight with dual swords - Newest build, focused on Fighter's Guild. I sometimes miss the impact of simple light and heavy weapon attacks compared to my modded Skyrim, so wanted to try building a character that can dish out huge damage with simple attacks. It relies on passives to weapon damage, mainly from the Fighter's Guild tree. The Dawnbreaker ult can give a passive +5%. Every FG ability gives +3%, so I have Silver Bolts for a ranged attack and Expert Hunter for the passive boost to weapon crit, which along with the ult is +14% weapon dmg total. Dual swords passive is another +5%. Medium Armour passive is an extra 12%. Igneous Weapons buff with a passive from the same class tree provides another 25%. So that's a total of +56% weapon damage, and there's a passive from dual wield that increases weapon damage by a further 6% of your off hand weapon's damage value. Dual wield skills are Whirlwind for AOE damage, and Flurry morphed to Bloodthirst for a self heal when needed. Haven't got far enough with this character to say whether it works well yet, but it feels fun to play for me, and I'm touring Tamriel to destroy every single Dark Anchor in the game, because screw questing!

The main thing I've learned is that for solo play, ANYTHING is viable. Check out the skill calculator and try making your own special blend of fun

For me personally magicka sorc is still my most enjoyable class to play. I have two max level ones my main (breton) and a high elf. Very suitable for your wishes (survivability and dps).

My imperial templar is currently magicka based i'm in the process of levelling a breton to replace her and go stamina on the imperial but for some reason stamina templar doesn't appeal to me atm so i can't advice on that.

So my suggestion is to try out magicka sorc but ymmv.
Hope you'll find what you're looking for and will have fun while you're at it :)

Edit: Stamina sorc is really fun too in case you prefer to play stamina based toons.

Magic Sorc for the win, based on what you are suggesting. I actually think Magic Nightblade is the most well rounded class, because they have skills for everything. They are excellent for casual stuff, but dont quite perform as well as sorcs in a more formal group setting in PVE. Both play ranged DPS, so the playstyle is pretty similar from a DPS perspective. Nightblades rotation is tougher and they dont quite pull as much DPS.

Sorcs are probably getting the biggest buff this patch, and Templars are probably getting the biggest nerf. Templars are great for survivabiliy, no question, but they do play melee range which is always a little more challenging. 3 months ago I would have said go templar, but its hard to know how bad the nerfs will be until it goes live.

My instinct is that next patch in a trial setting, Magic DKs and Magic Sorcs will dominate most groups. DKs for melee, and Sorcs for range.

Also, almost any ridiculous video you see of someone soloing very challenging group content is done with a sorc.

I have to agree that playing either Sorcerer or Templar, be it magicka or stamina will definitely be easier to level than Nightblade or dragonknights.

my main is Nightblade though and I only had a lot of fun levelling when I changed my play style to that of melee dual wield / 2 handers. Bows were what I started with but it was rocky, real rocky when it came to level 30 onwards.

when I had my sorcerer though, it was boring but efficient. Sorcerers do not need much to have good aoe damage so in terms of levelling and grinding, they are tops.

Templar was the best for me in terms of 'having fun'. it's really nice to have a sort of melee magicka class that can deal good damage while having one of the best "oh ***" heals in game. however I have to say Templar has problems with sustain in the early levels.
