Need to play other Elder Scrolls game?

Hi everyone,

I bought this game a few weeks ago and i'm enjoying it so far. I'm just wondering if I need to have played other elder scrolls games like Morrowind/Oblivion/ Elder Scrolls V to fully enjoy the game? Am I missing out on anything if I don't? I'm not a huge Skyrim fan; i've probably only played around 30 hours of Elder Scrolls V. But I do like MMORPG's.

It certainly doesn't hurt but if you're not having trouble following the plot I wouldn't worry about it.

    Not missing out, No.
Story-wise this game is BEFORE the other Elder Scrolls titles.

The Gameplay & Combat are their own MMO thing.
Oblivion is still fun for the Stealthy Archer aspect, but the ESO Dark Anchors are much more fun that those Oblivion Gates!

& There's lots of lore stuff to find out in ESO if you are interested.

Morrowind was definitely one of the best computer games ever, like Civilisation 2 or DOOM in their own genre and time, but I am afraid now it is too archaic in terms of graphics and controls (not the world and the plot, though, they are still the best). Skyrim is still very playable, and if you like ESO you probably will like it as well - but as it was said, you absolutely don't need it.

Also the ESO lore books are really good at informing the player of the major plots and the ES verse in general. You'll learn practically all the major arch story lines.

The other games just go into depth about what you can learn about in the lorebooks, an example would be the Heart of Lork and the tribunal and ascending to god hood in Morrowind.

You don't need to have played the other games... but if you have, you catch a lot of references and easter eggs that you wouldn't otherwise understand.

If you just like MMORPGs, go ahead and simply dive in. It's fun whether you know the lore or not. :)
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)
