ESO and ESO:Morrowind - Main Story Lore Discussion

*This post is for lore fans to attempt to discuss and put clues together to make predictions about future ESO events*
*Beware of spoilers and a long read that's probably confusing as I'm typing out my thoughts and pulling at straws here*
*I am in no way a lore expert, just a casual who takes interest in these things*

As excited as I am for the new expansion, class and battlegrounds, I am particularly looking forward to the ESO story.
The main story of Morrowind will certainly carry on or be somewhat related to previous events that have happened in ESO so far. I've read about an unnamed Daedric threat in the Morrowind expansion description and was wondering who it could be?

The information given so far is
"The fate of Morrowind hangs in the balance and you must take up the mantle of a hero to help Vivec, the legendary warrior-poet and Guardian of Vvardenfell, save the world from a deadly Daedric threat"

Is this Daedric threat related to the meteor that's falling towards Morrowind?
Is this Daedric threat related to what the Prophet tells us at the end of Orsinium?

"Greetings, Vestige. Though, I can hardly call you that anymore, can I? Let us say, Meridia's Champion, the Hero of Coldharbour, the Savior of Tamriel."

Varen? But, I saw you die! "So you did. And I have gone on to the next great adventure."

Why have you returned? "I bring you a warning, Champion. Oblivion stirs. Great and terrible machinations have begun. Once again, Tamriel is in danger. You have a part to play in the events to come."

What events? "A great war is coming. A war between the forces of Oblivion. The Daedric Princes are choosing sides. The great deceiver (Boethiah), the sewer of discord (Mephala), and the patron of darkness (Nocturnal) plot a great deception."

What must I do? "Be ready. Watch for signs. The war shall begin when the gates of Sotha Sil's lost city are re-opened. So the scrolls portend. So shall it be."

Will you help me? "I cannot aid you in the coming battle. My time in this world is at an end. I must take my place in the Immortal Plane. Farewell, old friend. We will not speak again."
Wait! I don't understand! *Varen Disappears*

The Morrowind Trailer:

Above mentions the war will begin when the gates of Sotha Sil's lost city are opened. The twitch stream confirmed that we will be able to go into the Clockwork City as the gate are accidentally opened. However players are unable to explore the whole area *yet* but the gates have certainly opened. You visit parts of the Clockwork City during the main quest and within the 12 player trial where you fight the Dwarven Colossus so I am assuming the area of the trailer is a part or the entrace of the clockwork city.
([url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJpPtC2CD6k "[/url]This is found at minute 24:08 of @FENGRUSH video recording of the live stream)
It seems as if the grand master in the Morrowind trailer had accidently opened the gates when attempting to escape from Naryu Virian by stepping on some sort of panel mechanism on the steps. What was he doing there in the first place? He has a map in his hands and stops at the Dwemer ruin as if that is the location he was specifically looking for but Naryu was ordered to kill him at a location that is "out of the way to avoid questions" by Vivec. What could his betrayal of the order have been and was it influeced by this "great deception"? Also, what were the Argonians carrying in the trailer?

We know the Morag Tong's founder is Mephala so we're seeing an involvement in the 3 Daedric princes Varen mentioned already (despite the fact that Mephala is quite prominent in ESO already in various dungeons like Spindleclutch, Cradle of Shadows and Fungal Grotto) and potentially their plan of the opening the gates of the Clockwork City was actually intentional and the grand master was simply a pawn used to make the events of the trailer happen, but for what reason, why the Clockwork City? What do you think?

Boethiah is also heavily related to the Dunmer in general:
"Boethiah is one of the three Daedric Princes (along with Azura and Mephala) directly responsible for the existence of the Dunmer as a distinct race"
"Boethiah continued to play a key role in the religious practices of the Chimer, even after they became the Dunmer. Along with Azura and Mephala, Boethiah is worshiped as one of the three "good" Daedra, in opposition to the four "bad" Daedra of the House of Troubles. According to Tribunal dogma, Boethiah is the Anticipation of Almalexia, and submitted to Tribunal rule."

However, the antagonist of the Deshaan zone, Magistrix Vox was persuaded by Boethiah to spread the plague and overthrow Almalexia and the tribunal. Boethiah clearly has an agenda against the tribunal and I believe the Daedric threat and war mentioned by Varen and the Morrowind description is now attempting to destroy Vvardenfell and Vivec but it isn't just Boethiah but the other two as well now.

I haven't seen much of Nocturnal so perhaps someone could provide any information or links?

To conclude, what do you think the great deception being plotted is?

I'm also wondering what Molag Bal's involvement in this is and if he's still even involved at all. In terms of the timeline and events that have occurred, his planemeald failed and failed to take the Imperial City. Is his involvement in the ESO story over as Varen calls the Vestige "The Hero of Coldharbour" and says "Once again Tamriel is in danger" in referene to the 3 Daedric princes? I personally think thats it for Molag Bal in the ESO storyline. What do you think?

We are also yet to find out what happened to Clivia Tharn (if the moth priestess finds her after WGT) or Abnur Tharn after the main quest. Your thoughts on whether or not any of these characters will return to the story?

Any devs that can give us lore fans the slightest of clues in regards to anything in this post?

If I find anything else or anybody wants to contribute, I'll add it into this post.

Thanks for reading

Mephala trying to mess with the three is certainly possible even likely.

Has Azura thrown the moon at Vivec city yet? because that metor could well be that and we know what happens to that. Azura is particularly pissed with the three for using the numidium.

As noted Boethiah was trying to overthrow the three. I don't expect to see her here, her gambit was in Deshaan.

Oh actually that is interesting. If Vivec is the anticipation of Mephala and he is the major leader we will encounter in morrowind then a them battling with Mephala seems sensible and therefore could heavily involve Mephala and a web of lies and plots and even the weakend Morag Tong can play a part.

I seems that these DLCs and expansion, seem to focus on Daedra other than Molag Baal. Still i wanted to see the worm cult make a play for the numidium, Mannimarco wanted to be a god after all, but it doesn't seem likely from what we know. Mannimarco may have escaped from Molag when you defeated and weakend him but still seems unlikely we will see him agian.

It was Sheogorath/Jyggalag who launched Baar Dau. So maybe he is a daedric threat.

Interesting perspective, thanks for your reply.
I do think Boethiah will still be involved for some reason as deception is one of it's main traits.
I wonder if Nocturnal has a major role to play too there isn't much on him/her yet.

Btw I agree that I think that's it for Mannimarco too. He'll be back in Oblivion and I'm sure does stuff. Score that isn't in TES games.

I'm 100% on board with this, as it makes sense that we're playing after the Tribunal has been formed. The Morag Tong exists and Sheogorath launched Baar Du at Vivec in order to taunt him.

I'm pretty sure we'll be helping Vivec stop Baar Du from smashing into Vivec.

This is actually funny because Vivec told the Dunmer afterwards that Baar Du remains suspended just above Vivec because of their love and worship for him. It reality it looks like we'll be the ones actually figuring out how to stop it and he'll be taking all the credit.

    Rofl. What a ***.
"What is your purpose here, Arisen? If you sought to live you had naught but run and hide yourself away. But then, tell me, child of man... what does it mean to live in truth? To wage war against the passing days? To pray to the unseen for a few breaths more? To raise grand cities from stone, and spawn new life in turn? Mankind has done this, yes, and more. But is the tapestry you weave truly of your own design?"
