when did weapon ultimates happen?

Just returning to the game after more than a year not playing, and while looking through my abilities I just noticed weapon trees have ultimate abilities now. Anyone have a rundown on which are worth using?

Bow ult has a great morph that fires independent of you, making it a fantastic dot. Dual wield ult is phenomenal on DPS, and great for survival. Sword and shield ultimate makes you super tanky, but you still need to manually block CCs. Destro ultimate is OP.

The Bow, Two Handed, and Destruction Staff are the most powerful, and currently the topic of some very heated hate threads. Especially over the Destro Ult.

For the Bow, Ballista is the way to go as you summon a Bow to channel the Ultimate for you, so you can continue to use your own attacks while the Ultimate is firing off at the same time. Although the Toxic damage morph has a higher damage output.

Two Handed one is only incredibly powerful because of one of it's Morphs, where the entire Ultimate cost is refunded if you defeat an enemy with it. If you can keep defeating enemies with your Ultimate, then you're practically spamming it indefinitely.

And the Destro Staff Ultimate is just a godsend for PvE and PvP players alike. A giant AoE attack that does massive amounts of damage over nearly 10 seconds. Groups are using it in Cyrodiil to farm Alliance Points now. The only downside is it's hefty cost of 250.

Regarding "When", the new Weapon Ultimates became available as part of One Tamriel (Update 12), November 2016 or so. Not that long ago, really.

Yeah, the destro ulti is kinda a bit OP right now, both in its stationary artillery form, and even worse in its "kill-aura" form that is almost an "I win" against fighters depending on melee range to do their damage... and bad enough against everyone else as well, unless they pay attention and run like rabbits when it happens.
But most of the others are also quite useful, especially DW (damage and heals? Nifty), 2H (bash 'em up, all the time), and Bow (both the ballista turret, and the poison arrows). 1H&S is okay for tanks, and Resto not too bad for healers, but those two are more situational while the others are generally useful...

I haven't found the 1H&S one to be very useful so far, but at least it has a low cost and recharges fast.

Nah restro ulti is the direct counter to destro ulti. I mostly duo, so when we are 2vX-ing and someone pops up destro ult, I pop up restro ult then we focus on the guy who is destro-ulting. Don't know why people haven't realize how strong restro ult is in PvP.

It's great for tanking, both PvE and PvP. Oh your team wipes? *Pop up ult and rez the healer.

Panacea (resto ult) is also great for rezzing dead players while mobs/ boss is wailing on you. As long as they don't have an interupt attack you can usually survive a LOT of incoming damage while channelling the rez.

For Pvp, resto ulti is basically a don't die button for its duration. Everything else has been covered

If you build towards it you can potentially 1 hit someone with the 2H ulti and man it's fun. I 18ked a Heavy armor tankmagplar n he was like "How the fq did you do that". It's difficult to get hits like that but you gotta heavy attack to produce similar results (depending on your setup).
