Not allowing Crowns to pay for the Morrowind expansion is a betrayal

I don’t mind that it’s excluded from ESO+ or what it’s been priced at, but Crowns are the established system of paying actual money for added game content. Period. It’s just plain a betrayal of your customer’s reasonable expectations to not allow paying for this expansion with the Crowns we already paid for in anticipation of spending them on content.

That said, I went ahead and pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition from Amazon Prime because I want the statue and book. But you can bet I won’t be subscribing or purchasing any more crown packs in advance.

I have no comment either way. But damn man, you kinda made me laugh when you dropped that bomb that despite your rage you'll be shelling out a bunch for the collectors edition. I'm so mad at you guys, I'll show ya...I'll...I'll...I'll spend extra money on your product! Ataboy. Ps, you'll still be subscribing and purchasing crowns when they go on sale.

And just when I thought I have heard it all. Now ZOS has betrayed us too!?! Never buying crowns or subbing again after buying the collector's edition sure showed them. Way to stick it to the man!

The digital-only versions will almost certainly be available for Crowns though... How do you expect to receive physical goods when paying through the game with a pseudo currency?

The issue would be pricing, imo, the ratio of real money I would theoretically pay in real money to how much the DLC's actually cost in crowns is roughly 1:200, that is 200 crowns per dollar I'd pay, so to me their given price of $40 for the base game and $60 for the CE would be worth 8k Crowns and 12k Crowns respectively. Which would end with me paying in cash anyway since that's an option.

If paying $40 for a real content update is a betrayal then I want to be betrayed more often

@ZOS_GinaBruno can you start betraying us quarterly please that would be way better than the content we get for free typically through ESO+

I'm not mad or feeling any rage. Obviously I think it's worth paying for this content and am happy to do so. But it is a betrayal of the customer's expectations to establish Crowns as the currency of the game and then add content that can't be paid for using that established method. It just is. This has been badly handled IMO.

Again, I have no issue with the price and am using "betray" in the dictionary sense of "to lead astray" or "to prove false". ESO established Crowns as the way we pay for content. Now they have announced content that can't be paid for in that way. This betrays the expectation they established that Crowns are used to pay for content. Personally, I'd have rather been paying actual money for DLC all along, but ESO made Crowns the currency... except that now sometimes they aren't. Which was my point.

The only problem is that some DLC is only purchasable with crowns and some requires cash. If ZOS let us purchase all DLC content with cash then this would actually be a benefit for the community. I mean World of Tanks has a ton of content available and a large portion of it can be purchased with cash or gold (they're in-game currency), so why is ESO somehow different? Note that I am using WoT as reference since it is also available on all current platforms.

So what they complain about IS legitimate... from a certain point of view. And you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our point of view.

I can see where people feel that . I can see why people have to come to the rescue of ZoS too . I'm over it . The stuff in Marrowind wasn't my cup of tea so I preordered another couple of games until ZoS comes out with somethings I'm interested in . I don't advise spending too much time and energy with anything that makes you feel betrayed . And on a forum it just provokes people that don't share your sentiment . I don't know why but it does . So before you have to deal with a ton of emotions , find a solution to being happy .

I would agree with you except for one thing.
We've been given a 5 month heads up that you can't buy it with crowns.

If ZOS one week out from release said, "oh btw no crown purchase" then yes I could see the betrayal.

To be fair. When you look at the fine print it says access to dlc in the crown store. If they make it purchasable through crowns, then they may be on the hook for giving subs the content for free instead of having them purchase it.

They want you paying full price for it, of course they wouldn't. Someone could have a stock pile of half off crowns and purchase it. From a business perspective it's smart, from consumer perspective were feeling a little robbed.

No, this is no betrayal. This is just buy to play. Gotta sell the game.

You have subscribed to ESO...you haven't subscribed to ESO Morrowind. Haha, sorry, just being picky because your whining irritated me. On a more serious note, it makes perfect business sense for ZOS to do this. They know that ESO plus subscribers love ESO, so they know that subscribers will pay for the expansion anyway...as you have proved.
