I've always loved the idea of a summoner type class. Having minions fighting for you, like a Necromancer or Druid or Warlock or a Conjurer of sorts. So when I saw the Warden, with it's skill tree seemingly dedicated to Animal Companions, I was very excited. Summoning a bear as an ult, how awesome.

Then I remembered how sorc's pets currently are, and most of my excitement died. Combat pets in this game are just too weak and niche in general. The AI is stupid, can't block or dodge AOEs, can't prioritize targets. The health and resistance values are too low, and they die when a mob farts on them. In other games, the summoner and the summoned creature usually synergize with each other, neither is too strong or too weak alone, but together they can do amazing things. Pets applying DOTs and debuffs, while the caster buffs and heals the pet. Here, the Clannfear runs off to attack a spider 10 meters away while two other mobs bash your face in. Sorcs in general are way better off without their pets. It's just so... lacking.

I hope they change something to make the pets viable. Imagine summoning the bear, only for it to get CCed, or run into an AOE and die in a few seconds. That's pretty lame in my opinion.

My initial worry about the Warden class is brought on by the changes to frost staves coming with Homestead. They seem to be getting worked into playing a more tanky style, so if the frost magic from the Warden class is supposed to more DPS oriented, then we may end up having to use other weapons (like dual swords, as every magicka class already does) to effectively DPS without taunting. But I obviously don't know the ins and outs of the Warden class yet, so this is just nervous speculation.

They said frost staff was defensive magic, so that fits in with the Warden class. But I'm guessing its going to be much like Dark Magic for Sorcs.

I'm just wondering what buff they will bring to a group...

    Nightblades provide Minor Savagery
    Sorcerers provide Minor Prophecy
    Templars provide Minor Sorcery
    Dragonknights provide Minor Brutality

These are the only existing sources of these buffs outside of Poisons.

    What will the Warden bring?

Will Warden healers be able to return stamina to group members through class skills or passives. That's the big question for me.

I'm currently thinking a Bosmer stam and Breton reachman mage will be quite fun.

Weren't we told that there will be a class change available? So don't worry on that

As for Animal Companions, from what I understood they are just castable skills. Eg press the Cliffracer skill to cause a Cliffracer to swoop down on an enemy. Sounds like a Crowd Control ability to me. No toggle, just cast a time based CC with a different animation.

when I think of a class that uses animals and is in touch with nature I do not think of a warden, I think of a ranger, scout or druid, I think warden might be the wrong name for this class, not that it really matters, wardens are usually off tanks that help protect the main tank, but that is being picky, I will enjoy the class and after the expansion, we will live in warden world for a few weeks LOL It is a long way to go hopeful it will hit the pts around May something and we can all be wardens and hammer out the class then.

It's essentially going to be a Templar that uses Nature instead of Holy magics. So you will be able to tank and heal on the class. I'm sure Templar will still be the best healer due to BoL though.

Warden will be a good soloing class simply for the Pets.

Any word on if Wardens will have to level from 1 or will there be a "level boost" of some sort?

Why do they show that warden using a 2H weapon and magic stuff if they just made any sort of hybrid completely useless?

Just had a thought - bought on by the discontent with the Morrowind collector's edition mount being a horse.

What if the Warden Pet was racially/geographically significant?

Bear or Wolf for Nord for example.

    Duneripper for Redgard.

    Something like that.

Zos did say in the forums a couple of months ago that they are going to be changing how attribute points work and that it won't be beneficial to invest all points into magicka for example... They might be looking at a way to make hybrids more viable.

I will try and find the quote....

We can only hope. I saw rich say that specific thing on some liveshow or something a while back too, but the way ZOS implements stuff in this game, by my own experience, im not holding my breath that it will be any good (for pvp)

I I think the healing factor would be cool, and the animal companion is awesome! Reminds me of a hunter from WoW.
But the ice magic is stupid imo.
If the character is supposed to be built around nature, then it would've been a lot cooler to get dps magic similar to like what Spriggans and Lurchers use; ice is a pretty big let down in terms of ingenuity and unique distinguishable skills.

There has been a lot of support from the playerbase for ice magic. A lot of people have wanted to be frostmages and such since launch. The current ice staff skill are underwhelming for this.

Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.

    My take on it:

Frost tree is defensive. Includes spells to debuff and control enemies and shield yourself and allies. We all saw the frost shield from the trailer. There will likely be some synergy Between this tree and the changes to frost staves. I'm hoping for playstyle not unlike frost death knights when they were first released in wow.

Nature tree will probably be focused on support and healing. Likely a few heal over time / rejuvenation spells and nature oriented buffs for yourself and/or allies. Im imagining buffs like those from grahtwood, where you can imbue allies with spirits of the serpent, wolf, or tiger for different effects. I expect less burst healing than templar, but strong, stackable heal over time spells to keep allies recovery up.

Pet tree will probably not have any "true" pets other than the bear ultimate. Bioware has learned the lesson the hard way that people don't like giving up ability bar slots for pets, which I'm guessing is the exact reason for making it an ultimate instead. Rather, the abilities in the pet tree will be duration based. I'm expecting something like a lion or pack of wolves as an equivalent to the nightblades dark shades. I'm hoping for a bee\Wasp\insect swarm as a damage over time ability, bonus if it can spread to nearby targets too.
    PS4 / NA
    M'asad - Khajiit Nightblade - Healer
Pakhet - Khajiit Dragonknight - Tank
Raksha - Khajiit Sorcerer - Stamina DPS
Bastet - Khajiit Templar - Healer
Leonin - Khajiit Warden - Tank

My initial worry about the Warden class is brought on by the changes to frost staves coming with Homestead. They seem to be getting worked into playing a more tanky style, so if the frost magic from the Warden class is supposed to more DPS oriented, then we may end up having to use other weapons (like dual swords, as every magicka class already does) to effectively DPS without taunting. But I obviously don't know the ins and outs of the Warden class yet, so this is just nervous speculation.

I thought about this too. My solution if I don't want a tank frostmage will probably be to just not take the destro staff passive that enables the taunting.

I will be honest, isn't putting a class which will be involved in PVP behind a paywall making the game Pay too Win? what if the class is overpowered? in my opinion ZOS should add this as part of the base game not have it be behind a paywall.

I really wish people would stop ranting... "Paywall". Come on people. This isn't a completely unheard of thing to add classes to a MMO through an expansion that costs money. Look at WoW and other MMO's. It's common and normal. Stop freaking out and yelling "shady business practices". It takes a lot of time and development to create this content as well as maintaining everything else that has already been made. And when you have a free to play game, that money has to come from somewhere. The money from ESO+ definitely helps, but not every one that plays the game does ESO+. ESO+ probably helps cover the maintenance costs and development time it takes for bug fixes and base game updates. The DLC that free accounts buy help pay for the time and costs for making those DLC. It is very reasonable to charge for an expansion like this.

It wasn't too long ago that all MMO's were subscription only. That subscription only gave you access to the game with no benefits. Then MMO's started going Free to Play and having micro transactions for convenience and cosmetic stuff. Most MMO's that are free today have a lot of restrictions on the free to play accounts. Way less storage and limits on coin accumulation, etc. ESO is one of the few MMO's with free to play that doesn't limit the base free account. You buy the game and then you get all the game with no hindrances just as it was when it was subscription only. If you chose to subscribe (ESO+) then you get benefits. You are basically getting all those benefits for free since the Crown Store coins you get are equal to how much it would cost to buy that many coins per month. Basically ESO+ is an agreement with ESO that says you will purchase coins per month to help support the game in exchange for benefits. A rather good deal. Heck, Guild Wars was the first to do away with subscriptions and did Buy to Play with no sub. You still had to buy the expansions. Why is this any different?

It will not be unbalanced out of design. Sure it will be just like the other classes and need tweaking. No surprise there. But all of this anger against ZOS for charging for this is ridiculous. It's not a paywall. It's reasonable. You want to get something for nothing all the time? If you really like this game, then why wouldn't you want to support it by chipping in and making sure the company has plenty of resources to continue producing this great game...by buying the expansions and DLC? ZOS is not ripping you off... please use some rational thought here for a bit... Yes I know it's really in style to bash game companies for anything right now. Jump off the bandwagon. ZOS isn't doing anything wrong here.
