What has ZOS said about the DLC being called an Expansion to charge players?

I'm genuinely curious what @ZOS_RichLambert or @ZOS_GinaBruno have to say about this. I'm seeing a lot of angry discussions about the DLC being called an Expansion, and thus they aren't obligated to share it with subscribers, instead everyone has to buy it.

So people are angry about subscribing for years under the impression they will have access to content released in the future and then this expansion is an exception. Why should I continue subbing and supporting Zos if this is the case? What was your thinking behind making this decision? I'm want to know before I jump on the #hatetrain and uninstall.

PS: Yes I will send you guys my stuff if I uninstall.

I just don't understand why anyone is pissed about this. HOLY CRAP IT'S A FRIGGIN EXPANSION YO!!

Like be happy who cares if you gotta pay for it. You spend more money on subs in 3 months than you would buying this Xpack.

Exactly. Why should I subscribe and support ZOS if they're going to make me pay for content in the future anyway?

Why should I support them if they keep finding loopholes to break the word they gave to the community.

With even a minor background in MMOs, I wholely expected that anything large in scope would get called an "expansion" and would not be covered by the subscription. I subscribe, thinking about pre-ordering the collector's edition, and the only thing that has me upset is being unsure that class change will be available in the future :p

Then If i buy the expansion which is Morrowind they should give 3 months ESO PLUS next to it.

No. If you have Eso+ you shouldn't be buying a thing that's related to content.

Large in scope? How do we know that 30 h of story content is large in scope? 1 trial, 1 new class (that is really nice), battlegrounds that will cause more problems than solve?

Bingo! They paid for 3 months on subs, and now they can't use those crowns to buy this expansion.

Were these players right in assuming that the sub would cover all future content releases? Maybe, maybe not. But it isn't hard to see why they thought that.

@BlazingDynamo - Calling it expansion doesn't make wrong into right. Can you tell the difference between DLC and expansion? How do we determine the difference between 2? and if that was the case, why ZOS was not specific about this before?

    Facts-
    1. as a ESO+ member you are supposed to get all future DLC content for free. Along with 4 DLC every year.
    2. T-1 Was not DLC but a update. SoTH- Only 2 Dungeons.
    3. Till date only Sizable DLC came out was Orsinium with 20Hrs of game play and now Morrowind has 30 Hrs, so that makes it expansion?
    4. Housing is not DLC, it's a another ingame feature update.

So maybe, people should stop calling it right because ZOS just changed the term of how they will cal their content. It does not make it right.

Exactly, 1 Trial & 1 Class they are selling for 40$. Liek they opt their way out in SoTH with just 2 dungeons. And no dungeons/ trials in DB but 1 trial in T. So how does this new zone makes it any difference.

Clearly speaking, it's no larger than Craglorn and was supposed to be 2nd adventure zone after it, but now it's being called Expansion.

As much as you may not like it, you can't say all you are getting is a class and battle grounds. 60hrs+ of gameplay aswell.

Same here, I seem to remember we had forum threads all through the second half of last year predicting that this would happen. Not entirely sure why it's now a surprise to people and generating so much outrage?

Learn to pick your battles folks! An Xpac - provided it's a full-sized and full featured Xpac - is a good thing for the game.

I just hope this isn't the end of DLC altogether now? A few more Wrothgars would flesh this year out perfectly

In the words of Weird Al Yankovic "Awww man I hate it when I'm right!"

I was extremely surprised a few months ago to see people on this forum talking excitedly about rumours of an expansion on the horizon and how great it'd be if Vvardenfell was an expansion instead of just a DLC.

It seemed obvious to me that an expansion would not be included in ESO Plus and subscribers would have to pay extra for it, since that's how every other game does it. (And since an expansion and DLC is functionally the same - so there had to be another difference to justify the different name.)

On the one hand I feel entirely justified in my decision not to sub and only purchase things directly when I want them, on the other hand I feel terrible for all the people who were surprised by this.

Name 1 b2p MMO that has an optional sub system and additionally charges subbers for content?

ESO+ is not just about getting DLC access free. You get crowns and in-game benefits. One may say that those benefits are not needed but still they are part of the package.

Not sure about the 4 DLC per year statement either. It could be 4 updates per year that includes free ones like 1T and Homestead. Again if that's the only reason you sub then you can call it off anytime. I guess lot of people would keep the sub even if not using those DLCs. Especially now when you can get all 4 released ones after 3 months of ESO+.

I'm glad we get an expansion. The price is reasonable and we can have higher expectations due to it. Yet if you don't like it don't buy it.

1t and Homestead are not DLCs. They are changes to the base game. Think of it like this, if you go out and buy the base game from a shop today (well ok, after Homestead is released *g*), would you also need to download additional content to get access to 1T and Homestead?
Again if that's the only reason you sub then you can call it off anytime.

This is very true. However, what if we have been subbed for the past 6 months without receiving the 2 promised quarterly DLCs? Do we not have a right to be a little upset about that? We can indeed unsub, but we won't be getting our money back.

problem is it feels you getting sold what was on the line long ago; pc folks were starving on content while they were working on consoles. it´s like they´re selling stuff to us which we were supposed to be given much earlier if they would have managed a clean console start.

That´s why ppl feel cheated on. I got no problem paying for this, but some clear words on it instead of this kind of presentation would be preferable, people are not stupid

Lots of people are still missing the point as to why people are upset. Using nonsensical analogies that are not appropriate when applied to this situation.

Try reading this thread https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/317326/morrowind-and-eso#latest in its entirety so you understand both sides of the problem.
