Prediction - CP 180 to CP 200 Gear with Morrowind Expansion

Very excited about the expansion as Morrowind was my favorite ES Game. I'm also predicting that there will be increase in max gear level at the time of the expansion to CP 180 or CP 200. It makes sense to do it in concert.

Very true. There will be push back every single time they increase max gear, which is why they said they wouldn't do it for every DLC. This however will most likely warrant it.

That I doubt. They didn't say anything in the stream which could have been taken negatively at all. All the details which some may not like (cannot buy with crowns, not included with eso plus) would be addressed later. As will max cp gear I believe.

There is no reason to increase the Gear Cap. All it does is create a grind where everyone ends up right where they started. All the PvP will have the same levels of gear, and all the PvE mobs will be buffed to the new gear levels so combat will be no different than it is now. A bunch of Drama and Stress for absolutely no gain.

Another thing to think about, Materials. We already use 10 times the materials going from CP150 to CP160. Do you really think any player would stand for having to farm 20 or 30 times the CP150 Materials to gain an incremental level of stats? That alone would kill the game.

There is absolutely no gain to be had in the gameplay or balance or character prowess by increasing the gear cap.

Progression is done through the Champ System now.

Besides, all they have to do is add new Gear Sets to keep the gear treadmill going.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I'm sorry, but you are not correct to my knowledge. They stated previously that they would not be doing that frequently as with each DLC. As you can see from the below interview from August of 2016, they stated that they would not be doing so "anytime soon" but that they do consider this as part of the progression just as they raised it when cap went from VR14 to VR16.

    @Avagor

No it doesn't. He clearly says that with One Tamriel, they got rid of all those arbitrary level and player separation issues. Nothing in that statement alludes to or hints at a gear cap increase.

And, the End Game Content, that is Group Dungeons and Trials. Again, those can be set to the same scale as everything else in One Tamriel and still be a challenge. Don't believe me, go do vMSA.

My only hope is, that they don't forget to scale ALL sets with it. All trial and overland sets for example.
We don't need outdated gear once again. Otherwise I always welcome such increases.

What would be the point? Everyone would just grind to the new level and we would be back where we started.

With hundreds of hours of new content coming out, why force us to grind for new gear instead of enjoy the content?

It currently takes 500-1000+ hours to grind all BiS gear (vMA, vDSA, trial gear, dungeon gear, and monster shoulders). They would essentially lose their entire endgame population with a gear increase as no one is going to want to go through a new 1000 hour grind. It's one of, if not the longest, grinds in any MMO.

This new "chapter" seems like the time to raise the gear cap if they are going to. I think it would take a lot of rebalancing the crafting system, unless it just won't be possible to craft the highest level gear (highly doubt that). But that's basically what every MMO is. Get gear, max your stats, then the cap raises. Rinse and repeat. I hope they don't raise the gear cap, because it seems to me like that would be an arbitrary change just to add more hours to the game. They will add more diversity now with the new class, and definitely a plethora of new gear sets, so raising the cap would just create an unnecessary headache for the players. But then again, that hasn't stopped some developers before.

I know you are opposed to it as you have posted previously many times that you are. That doesn't however mean that It's not something that they would consider. I think an expansion is the perfect time for a gear reset and the pursuit of gear often keeps me playing games. In my personal opinion it would be a good thing for the game over all to periodically do this and they have always reserved the right to do so.

Nobody crafts gear anymore though. You have to farm all of it. And that takes eons.

A DPS magicka user right now needs to farm:
    • Monster shoulders
    • vMA weapon
    • Moondancer trial gear
    • BSW dungeon gear

Not one of, but all of them. That is 500-1000 hours of grind, at least.

It has nothing to do with whether I am opposed to it or not. I still have Alts in CP150 Gear, and if they raise the cap, I am not going to increase my gear for a few stat point gain. A gear cap increase would have 0 impact on me. I mean nada, zilch, nothing.

Bottom Line, what purpose would it serve to raise the cap? How would it improve game play in anyway shape or form?

Champ Point Increases accomplish that with no backlash from the community.

Besides, a gear cap increase goes against everything One Tamriel stands for. No Arbitrary Separation of Players.

It sounded like they sort of waded around the question in the stream. While they didn't outright say it, they also didn't flat out deny it. You have to assume alot here. They mentioned expansion means max level content in other games, usually that's also a cap increase, but also mentioned the One Tamriel change. This can be taken two ways:

    A) no cap increase because One Tamriel made that irrelevant.

    Or

B ) you'll battle level to the new cap so don't worry.

Of course for the latter doesn't make sense since 30cp gear doesn't level once you reach 160, for example.

There might be a third option, only Morrowind content will be at the higher cap, but that's still pretty messy to implement.
