Why the remark about Windows though. It's perfectly fine.

I use linux on all my company servers and I enjoy many things about it, also the community around it. Normally they are well educated programmers and software developers. Except a slight few, they are like the hardcore Apple users, but then for linux. I guess your dumb windows remark puts you right in that group.

I have installed ESO in a wine environment on a machine at work. To be honest it works pretty well, although I haven't played there much (just some hours when I had to do some waiting). But I'm posting this from a "malware OS" machine. So I wouldn't take my word for it.

I always wondered why consumer pc communities in general had such a weird attitude towards linux. Now I know, remarks like this. Big LMAO.

I love my work environment in Ubuntu. So don't make us look like idiots, thanks.

Google and Facebook spy and sell your personal data with any OS anyway.
I'd like too to use eso on Linux but unfortunatly is not the only game i play and most of them don't work on Linux, so atm i'm stuck with Windows.
On a side note i also use Ubuntu ad main OS in my workplace, the only thing that Linux cant do is run games...

What about virtual machine, like virtual box? Would it work here? I guess your computer would need to be really good, but if you had installed eso on virtual windows it wouldn't affect your other linux data.

When Zenimax canceled DX9 support, it didnt worked. But a few months later Wine introduced DX10/11 support and people were able to play it with various results.

Yup.. whenever I see a 'Anyone else use Linux?' post in a game forum. Its 9 times out of 10 someone bashing Windows. Therefor I usually don't have patience or the time of day for Linux users and usually could care less if they ever get support for games.

Seems to be the go-to OS for edgy millennials who want to 'stick it to big business'. That's the impression they give anyways.

I had hoped that Steam embracing Linux with their SteamOS would have given some good omphh and or some mojo... slowly but surely they are getting there... just not as fast as I would have liked it.

The problem is that developers have to get behind it... and with the budget constraints time/money... most of what you find under Linux is indie related.

It's bad enough for developers to have to code and bug fix for one platform... for ESO, they have to do it on PC as well as consoles... though from what I understand, coding for a console is easier due to the consistency of hardware used and that makes sense.

Linux... you have a completely different API to work with... nVidia seems to be strong with their driver support under Linux... but even still, last I heard, OpenGL was going under some serious renovations to hopefully make it competitive with DirectX.

You can knock MS all you want... but they have the vehicle and they are the driver.

I would LOVE to be a Linux ESO player, but sadly it's not available on Linux :disappointed:. I wish more developers would open up to Linux as a gaming platform, Ubuntu is a great OS! ESO is one of the few reasons I bother dual-booting windows these days.

Typical, I mean totally typical vocabulary of a linux user. I'm quite surprised you didn't use "windoze", but ok, "malware" is also effective.

Just off the record, are you aware that less than 1% (0,8% to be precise) of ALL Steam users combined are Linux based? Imagine how many people would play ESO specifically? Like 2? You and your friend. :D

Ok, a little disclaimer first. I am a Hardcore Linux User. I have been involved directly with Linux OS development since the mid 1990's. The laptop that I am typing this on runs pure Linux, based on the Arch Linux distro.

However, I now do all my gaming on an Xbox One.

Until fairly recently, this laptop did actually dual boot Windows 10 Insider Preview (Fast ring), but it ran flawlessly, and I got bored of it.

I have gamed on Linux both natively and via wine for a number of years on a previous desktop machine I owned.

The OP's attitude is uncalled for and unwarranted.

I actually have a lot of respect for windows since win 10 released - its a better OS than anything they've done since Windows 7, and is far better than Win 7 in a lot of ways.

To be honest, I think the future of MMO gaming is going to be on console, as it is a far easier way of monetizing big multiplayer games, and a lot of MMO houses are known to be looking at serious investment in console versions of their existing or upcoming titles.

    Windows 10 is spyware

Windows 10 has a botnet built into it - What is a botnet?

Windows 10 - you are the product.

Microsoft forces new CPUs to be Windows 10 only

Windows 10 Fast Startup can trash your hard drive (If your graphics drivers fail you can be unable to see anything in Windows to do a proper shutdown and get to safe mode to then fix your drivers, for example.)

I tried when I first bought the game but ESO required a version of Direct X that is not available on LINUX.

If you've used LINUX for more than a few years you will know that sometimes stuff works - sometimes it doesn't.
So ESO might work for a while on LINUX ... then it won't. Rinse repeat.

    Side topic:
I've been using LINUX since about 1998 on my computers with hardware that can no longer handle the updates of commercial software (and when I want the DELUSION of complete privacy, lmao). I laugh because my sister is kind high up there in DOD IT security and strongly warns people (without giving any details of course) not to rely on anonymity using TOR / VPN combo. So yeah.

While I am a full-on LINUX supporter, but I also recognize the realities of market and political forces and use Windows in my professional life. (Actually by federal regulations I'm required to). So to the Windows/LINUX debate I'm kinda "whatever".

    There is Linux malware.
How many ways are there of infecting a Linux machine that does not involve an untrusted repository?

As to your sister, ask her if she knows how distributed browsing works and via you, can explain it here. (Hint: It isn't TOR).
