Why we won't get housing storage...at least for awhile

I love the incoming housing, but it really needs storage to make it perfect. It's just begging for containers.

I don't think we'll get it though, because it will replace one of the main reason's people subscribe: The craft bag. OK maybe not "get rid" of it, but it's necessity would definitely diminish.

With containers and housing, we could build all of our crafting stations with nearby chests that contain the materials we need. Knowing that they had dedicated storage space at home, most people would probably just leave 5 or 10 slots open in their pack for random materials while adventuring. Not to mention the degree of necessity it would take away from upgrading bank and pack slots.

I would suggest the developers just make more items for us to fill the space up with :)

i dont think craft bag is at all the reason.

Note that ESo subscribers have more furnishings allowed per house.

So, if you have inventory issues and want to build storage etc - even more reason to sub with housing.

I think ZoS is trying to figure out how to make us spend crowns for storage. I seriously doubt we'll ever be able to create new storage with the materials in the game, it is going to cost real $$$.

Remember, ESO is a business that makes money, and spending crowns is the easiest way to generate revenue. Everyone wants storage, so it's a great opportunity to get everyone to spend $$$.

You wouldn't have to sub to get it though, you could just buy multiple houses with gold, right? I think maybe you're suggesting that sub'ers would get more as an incentive, but that is pretty much already the case with the craft bag, right?

I expect there will be different kinds of storage that are designed to complement (rather than compete with) the craft bag. E.g. display cases, armour/weapon racks and mannequins.

I expect these storage options will be available both in game and through the crown store (some crown exclusives), and probably the storage limits will be doubled for subscribers.

Each house can hold 2 "storage" items, subscribers get up to 4 "storage" items.
Small urns and normal chests availabe via master writs, holding 50 and 100 items respectively.
Crown chests (make them look like dolmen chests or something) can hold 200 items.

Boom, incentive to sub, incentive to buy chests with crowns, but up to 200 storage spaces available for non-subs, too. Maybe shift the amount of "storage items" a house can hold up with it's size (so apartments can only hold 1 storage item, manors can hold 6--doubled for subscribers).

I think it's the fact that they probably don't know the direction of how storage is going to be used/accessed.
    • One way could be a certain number of items allowed in a container as well as these containers having a limit (ESO probably would have more).
    • Another could be like another banking system, working like cloud storage between houses (which either could be tied to size or not tied to any size).
    • Themed (armor, weapons, maps, junk, etc) storage based on item type, capped at a certain space limit (like banks)

The list goes on for a while, but I don't think that it's going to nullify the use of a crafting bag. I do see it helping with the sets issue, which the crafting bag doesn't help much in with all the sets out there. And the surveys.

They could have done small steps, though. Like each house can have one treasure map chest that holds a full set plus CE if you have them. Because you can't put those in a craft bag, you can't have duplicates on a character or in the bank, and collectively they take up a lot of inventory.

Or guild store boxes where you deposit, say, 10 items per guild, that you want to sell and just pay the listing fee up front so they auto-list when something sells.

The whole 'absolutely no storage' is them being obtuse. One small option is better than zero options.

I think storage, crafting stations, etc. will be implemented in future and most likely around some sort of crown store mechanic. Just like personal bankers and merchants it will be a source of income for ZOS

In-house storage would be a great ESO+ perk.

    @SolidusPrime

Your making an assumption that any storage in housing would merely be craft a box to fill with items then craft as many as you need. I would expect any new storage would be similar to how storage already works.

The wise way for Zos to implement in house storage would be based on
The correct model of bag or bank storage but make it per character with a max of around 200 slots.

The multiple crafted storage items can be placed in multiple homes and when a character accesses it only items that character placed inside could be seen or accessed and would see the same items regardless of which storage box was being accessed.

The cost of storage beyond 10 slots from crafting the box would scale similar to bank and bag space.

Or something similar along these lines.

This would keep the crafting bag viable and stay in line with how storage in this game already works.

For me the crafting bag is more important for its ability to let you craft out of the bag from stations. Just prevent that with house storage and no worries.

this is the business model for all these companies now-

create a habit (i.e. writs, pledges) > create an inconvenience around that habit (i.e. storage, slots, changing race, name, etc)
    > charge a *** ton for that inconvenience to be lifted... but yeah they will never make it easier for us.

nothing i thought of- just something i saw on the internet! :p
