Adding to the heap of vMA threads

I never, ever thought I'd find myself posting something like this. And yet here I am.

I consider myself a very patient person when it comes grind-related RNG in this game. I definitely do not expect to earn BiS gear in the first, or 50th, or even 100th runs of something.
But never have I ever, in all the rest of my ESO grind, experienced RNG like what I have in vMA. I wish I had taken screenshots of the... wait for it... 9 RESTORATION STAVES IN A ROW. LITERALLY 9 in a row. Before that, though? 2x Sword n' Board in a row. And before that? Take a wild guess. Go on, anyone. Here, let's make it interesting:
5 or 6 more restoration staves IN A ROW.

Shocker. I don't remember the exact order of loot before those runs, but what I do remember is that 1 out of every 2 runs almost always guaranteed yet another restoration staff.

Compared to some players, I've done what is probably considered too few runs to jump on the forums and post about RNG. But I'd like to make one thing explicitly clear: I did not expect to have gotten my weapon of choice by now. But, come on... when 80% of loot is restoration staves, something is seriously broken.

In browsing the PTS forums, it appears that ZOS is addressing this issue. Crossing my fingers for when it hits live.

    Yes this is a sick joke, more than half of my drops have been restos and SnB. Wait for Homestead if you're in for the grinding:

    Adjusted the distribution of Maelstrom weapons obtained from the Maelstrom Arena via the Leaderboards and drops.
    • Previously, this was divided evenly by weapon category (Destruction Staff, Two Hand, etc). Now, it is based on the individual item type (Dagger, One Handed Sword, etc), and all damage weapons within the item type have an equal probability to drop.
    • In addition, when a Dual Wield weapon is awarded, you will receive two Dual Wield weapons.
    • We also slightly reduced the drop chance for Healing Staves, Bows, and One Hand and Shields.

    That just shouldn't happen. I've quit pve raiding and pve in general because of that. I have only 2 fire staves , charged and precise. Cancelled eso plus along with this as I only play in cyro. The game is a disgrace. Well done for getting a sharp tho

    I have never bothered with vMA even though I own Orsinium, and I doubt I ever will. My physical disabilities aside, I have heard too many tales of terrible RNG with NO TOKEN SYSTEM making the tedious, even I have heard described "psychotic" difficulty grind not really worth it unless you just enjoy punishing yourself for the challenge.

    If ZOS listened to their customers and added a TOKEN SYSTEM LIKE EVERY OTHER MMO IN THE UNIVERSE then perhaps they wouldn't have the reputation of "worst RNG in the industry."

    But I guess that's not fair. At least they don't make you pay real money for the RNG like Black Desert. :p

    A token system could not come soon enough.
    I for myself have run vMsA countless times and still have not seen a single sharpened Bow.
    A weapon propably EVERY other person running vMsA has already.
    On the other hand i have got 5 sharpened Inferno. But what for? Best thing i could use 3 of them for, is making a video of me deconstructing them...

    A little voice in my head says: Please let them increase gear level cap to 180 so everyone will quit the game and ZO$ can see what they have done...

    Really Wow...

    I've got 4 Sharpened Bow's and I've only run it about 25 times. It seemed to me Bows had a high drop rate. Bows and Resto staffs, that's all I get.

    That's a really good point actually. With ZOS's stubborn refusal (and that is how I see it at this point) to add a token system, the months or YEARS long RNG grind really does work against them ever increasing the gear cap.

    Itt is so prohibitive to grind back up to your previous level when everything requires SO much grind with NO way to guarantee returns with tokens after a certain investment, that THE VAST MAJORITY WON'T BOTHER.

    That means the vast majority will stop subbing or quit.

    Yes Bows and Restostaffs have currently the highest drop rate. That's why i said i am propably the only one without a sharpened bow.
    At least of those people that have run it at least 100 times.

    After hundreds of runs, My sharpen vMA weapon collection.

    Resto = 5
    Bow = 4
    1h/shield = 4
    Dagger = 3
    Axe = 2
    Lit staff = 2
    Ice staff = 0
    Fire staff = 0

    When the last update hit I turned in 370 undaunted keys trying to get a krags medium shoulder, and didn't get it.

    The RNG in this game to say the least is disappointing. A token system would be amazingly over welcomed at this point. I understand the difficulty trying to implement it now with old content but if future content is added with this same RNG system I'll find a new game to play. I don't expect to be given the items I want In a day or two, but I won't play a game that has a system that mathematically could have me never receiving the items I want.

    Why people wait for token system?
    Let's present that every weapon costs one thousand tokens (runs).Are you ready for it? I believe people will cry more and more about worth of it.

    In no particular order, my first runs have been:

    2 s&b (1 sword nirnhoned, 1 sword decisive)
    1 resto (precise)
    1 destro ice (charged)
    1 destro inferno (precise)
    1 dagger (powered)
    1 battle axe (decisive)

    I'm actually surprised how spread out it has been.

    The only thing I've found real nice is the resto staff for my magDK. My wait will be for a lightning staff (obviously sharpened).

    I am in the same boat. I got my Sharp Inferno about a year to the day after I started running it. I had all but given up. I have 7-8 sharp Resto staves. Still Havent seen a sharp bow, Maul, or Ice Staff.

    The grind in there is beyond terrible. At first it was exciting, but by your 50th run or so, you are barely paying attention. Why they cant just do a basic token system for this place is beyond me. How hard would it be. Decon a VMA weapon, get a token. 50 tokens gets a weapon of your choice, but if you get it sooner, great.

    Lol @token system. Why not ask them to drop from crafting writs as well? Or just to buy them for gold since you want it guaranteed to everyone anyway and this game has no dungeon cooldowns or expansions increasing the gear level, so at some point everyone will have the weapons if they are guaranteed.

    We just got our first token system in what is master writ rewards. I'm 100% happy with the system prices. They Arnt anywhere near the outrageous 1K mark you arbitrarily stated for weapons. Poll after poll. Post after post, shows the player bases favors a token system. You can't make 100% of the players happy 100% of the time. But majority has shown they want tokems system.

    What's wrong if they're guaranteed to eventually get their weapons that they've earned by beating the content? What's fair about people getting their preferred drops on the first handful of runs and others hundreds of runs later not getting their weapons? No one's asking for 1 token per clear=weapon of your choice.

    There is a world of difference between giving everyone VMA weapons, and establishing a mechanism so that if a skilled player runs the content (most difficult solo instance in the game), they will eventually get what they are after if they put in a reasonable, but predictable, amount of work.

    Anybody that supports the current system falls into one of 4 classes:

    1. They are a masochist and like the pain of a potentially never-ending grind.
    2. They got lucky and got what they needed on the first few runs.
    3. They dont care because they cant complete the content anyways.
    4. They are a troll that likes to argue and poke fun at other people with legitimate complaints.

    Lol, literally just got a charged Resto Staff. I hate this place.

    All but 1 of my maelstrom weapons have been charged so far.

    I haven't been running it as long as nearly the people I see on here and I'm already tired of it. That token system needs to be implemented.

    right now I have 55 vma weapons, all are joke, so many dupes, shouldn't we at lease be able to get at least one of each b4 we start getting more junk dups of junk we already have.

    Because you don't earn anything. You're playing the game and get loot if you're lucky. That's how BIS loot should be at least. And if it's meant to be rare , that means that if time tends to infinity, the number of weapon owners is still small.
