How to strengthen your absorb shield?

What exactly strengthens damage shields? For instance, I'm using Dampen Magic, so I've stacked magicka, wear 5 light, and put points into Bastion to make it bigger, but I'm not sure if there's anything else that would make it more durable. I understand that you can't crit a damage shield, so I'm guessing impenetrable traits and Resistant champion skill are basically a waste, but some patch notes from last summer seem to say that DoTs do hit damage shields, so would Thick Skinned, Elemental Defender, and Hardy reduce the damage that DoTs do to Dampen Magic?

So to increase the AMOUNT of damage the shield can absorb, you need to pump up your magicka pool as high as possible, as that is the resource is scales off. Additionally the CP passive Bastion can contribute to the size as well. Yes, shields can't be crit, and I am not sure if resistances apply. I think GuilliamTheRogue (I think that's how you spell it), @Deltia, @Woeler or @Alcast might have more in depth videos on how shields specifically work.

To get the most out of shields you have to build for it, I use infused and divines traits with the Mage mundus, some people prefer some impen but like you said, shields can't be crit.

If you're a sorc use hardened Ward to, it's better. Make sure you have arcane jewels, magicka enchants ect and I use Necropotence because it gives such a huge boost to magicka.

Shields are best when you have around 50k magicka
