quest, pvp, do dungeons, sell the rare items you find that people want. i dont even track what i make anymore. but i probably have 2m at least on my 8 toons plus almost 3m i think in bank. and i not even aggressive with making money.
Not rich in gold averaging 300k, rich in pots and gold gear. Like around 3k spell and weapon power pots on my main magicka and stamina characters. On the others its around 400 per char. All the gear I use is gold. So really I don't need milions. Your money doesn't affect your DPS or your PvP capabilities.

I have from the upper 3 figures to 4 figures of every single crafting mat, with the exception of some poison reagents. Don't use poisons so I don't really chase those and mushrooms are used to level my alts in Alchemy. I have around 300 each of the Gold Tempers, I think Rosin is a little over 200 because I recently made all 10 of characters two sets of CP160 Staves. Kuta's, lets just say I never worry about using them. I don't ever need to buy a crafting mat.
I have as of this morning, just under 6.5 Million in Gold.

I am not gold rich, material rich, crown rich, dollar rich, yen rich, euro rich, or rich in anyone's definition of the word on the computer or real life. But I do have a great personality.
When is the best time to start grinding for gold? I've heard it's after 50, since it is much easier around there to do so.

Not remotely. It doesn't matter how you define rich, I am not it. In terms of gold I usually have between 0 and 20k.
(Having said that I could have more if I really wanted to, but my approach in games is to save up until I can afford the next thing I want, then buy it. I don't see any appeal in chasing money for its own sake, or in saving it since I'm not going to be hit with unexpected bills in a game.

Traditionally I've only kept 100-200k available, but I've been saving up since housing was announced. Pulling in about 70k / day now before any trading.

You start farming gear that people might want to buy at CP160. However there are many ways to make gold in this game.
1. Just do a Zone, selling all the loot you get to NPCs will net you 25K to 35K per zone after repairs after doing the content. See Number 6 for some drops.
2. Farm a Public Dungeon, some are better than others but I can net 5K gold in 30 minutes just from NPC Drops in some of them, not counting what loot I get to sell or vendor. Some are much lower in the gold per Mob Group, so pay attention.
3. Legerdemain, filling your bags with White, Green and Blue Loot will net you 5K to 15K or more, each day, on each character.
4. Farm and sell in guild stores Alchemy Reagents and Mats. Some flowers sell for 100 to 300 Gold, each.
5. Do low level crafting writs on high level characters, you get max gold and top tier material surveys if you do the surveys on a skilled character.
6. Farm Zones for desired gear in the Impenetrable, Divines, Infused (Large Pieces), Sharpened, Precise and Training traits. Farm Dolmens for Purple Jewelry for those sets. Decon, research or vendor the off trait and green/blue jewelry.
Those are just a few ways to make gold
