The thing is, as the games have moved on they have toned down and refined the lore. But that does not mean there aren't bits of really nasty things in the lore of ESO if you go looking for it.

Tamriel is just as vicious, politically conspiring, death filled and horrific as Westros or any other fantasy world. It just has a lot more existential elements than your average fantasy world too, thanks to the Aedra and Dedra.

Many fantasy settings are stale and generic. It is only the settings with depth and darker tones, like your example, that are well-known, and with good reason.

I wish the games wouldn't be so toned down. Morrowind was so unique and original, and I feel that Skyrim, while it is an amazing game, lacks that uniqueness. Kirkbride really brought a lot to the table, and I wish that TES devs would try to come up with similar themes and styles im their writing and lore. Sometimes, they do, and it really adds a lot to the game.

Not to turn this into your last two threads but they are toning down the more controversial aspects of the series in order to appeal to more people so they can make money so they can continue to make more games.

This is an understandable business practice, but I feel that many TES fans will begin to ignore the newer, inferior titles in favor of the older ones which contained greater depth. Graphics don't bother me, and if TES becomes akin to a Disney movie, I will do the same. Anyways, I would rather have 1 real TES game every 10 years than 10 COD-esque games in the same timespan.

There are still "unique" elements in the games, and they actually feel that much more significant because they aren't ubiquitous. Downside is that you can play the games without ever stumbling across them, and it makes the world feel more mundane than it actually is.

But ESO already added more interesting lore than Skyrim, imo. I also enjoyed ZOS' writing in general much more than Bethesda's. As long as they keep Schick busy, I feel the IP is in good hands. Not really holding my breath for TES6, though.

Four Chimeri villages and two more Dwemeri strongholds were destroyed by her decision enforcement. Vivec had to stuff her mouth with his milk finger to keep her from singing Veloth into ruin."

Well, Skyrim was the most popular TES game so far, and there are things like cannibalism, graphic violence, tortures etc.
ESO is great in terms of lore (I like it more than Skyrim) but sometimes it feels a bit toned down compared to it. I dont know why its rated M (except for DB dlc).:D

I mean I love dark gritty worlds as much as the next guy. I love bright, colorful, lighthearted ones too. I don't think you need to have a dark tone to be deep or memorable. I definitely agree with the rest of what you're saying though. They've really taken the "weird" out of this universe, and I've lost a lot of my love for it as a result, hence why I barely come here anymore.
No one is saying there aren't multiple interpretations of the lore, and we're not arguing that ESO did it "wrong".

We're arguing that they decided to go for the most boring, mundane, seen-before interpretation possible. Like they almost always do, unless they can ride on the coat-tails of past games.

Some countries have laws against depicting certain things (I'm thinking of the censored German version of TF2) so when your threads get locked or they put lipstick on the lore pig, it's to be able to survive in those foreign markets.
