Crafting Writs - a small change that would make so much sense

thelogicalghost
Of all the wonderful things about ESO, there's one tiny thing that bugs me to no end, and that is the locations of the drop-off boxes for crafting writs.

Since areas are now tiered, not leveled, there's no longer a standard at which characters will hit certain levels in certain locations. But as you progress up the crafting trees, the location of the delivery boxes moves as though it expects you to have made a certain amount of progress in your Alliance campaign. Since I wanted to really take my time with my first character and enjoy all the sidequests and exploring (and since I messed up the chronology and finished the Coldharbor questline having barely started on the Alik'r Desert questline), my crafting levels were constantly outpacing my exploration. I ended up having to figure out how to walk from Stormhaven to Bangkorai just to drop off writs and then run back to Alik'r to keep fighting zombies.

Is it a major deal? Admittedly, no. As I said, since levels aren't locked anymore, I'm not risking character death just to drop off a writ. But it feels weird and unnecessary and a waste of time. It means a lot more time spent running from drop-off to drop-off finishing different leveled writs, more running to and from wayshrines. And it doesn't really make sense, because it's explicitly stated that these goods are being delivered somewhere else. If the person paying for these products is already arranging for delivery, why can't they take our crafts from any of the major cities? If the client puts a writ up in a city, it only makes sense that they're prepared to ship from that city.

Would it really be a major deal to alter the drop-off locations? If it's too difficult to allow the player to drop off at any major city, then at least make the drop-off correlate to the city in which we pick up the writ. Please?

I just didn't level my crafting until I moved out of the area. I always keeping a skill point for it free.

but I know what you mean. I hate all these quests sending me to places I haven't been to yet not meant to be yet, its not just the writs but the mages, fighters and undaunted quests.

oh and the new life festival

Since you can pick up writs from anywhere, IMo you should be able to drop them off anywhere.

Heck, make those functions (pick-up and drop-off) a part of the mage guild magister and fighter guild steward and give them something to do.

I usually do my writs in Orsinium and I'd really like to be able to hand in my writs in Orsinium. Because you know, ef Craglorn.

    Would be a great change.

I'd also love if they just added the town / zone to the 'drop off at the trade consortium' line so when you skill up an new character, the quest would actually state where the damn thing goes instead of having to tab out and google to find the drop off point.

Same with the guild quest lines, would be nice to be able to do them anywhere (the story lines and dailies), but baring that major of a change, just adding a location when the quest says 'go talk to so and so' would be an improvement.

I would love if they added more drop-off location possibilities just because I'm very tired of having to deal with fps drops in crowded Belkarth since One Tamriel. I'd be so much happier if I could choose to go to a quieter city. They should just allow drop-offs for any level in the main starter city as well, or in the city in which you pick up the writ.

Yes!!! Any of these suggestions would be an improvement! Or make the main drop off location be in your Alliance's capitol city. It still means a bit of wayshrine use, but that seems like a logical place to go since that's one of the places you'll be somewhat early on. As far as Craglorn goes, I've not played there yet (because it sounds like a place I might die a lot), but I have gone there just long enough to drop off my stuff. Then I wayshrine myself out of there!

Being able to drop them off anywhere wouldn't actually make any sense. You've picked up an order from a notice board that's asking for you to make something specific and bring it to the place where the person/organization who ordered it is gathering supplies. I know that when I order something from Amazon I expect them to deliver it to me, I don't expect them to drop it off in whatever city they feel like in whatever country they feel like, leaving me to possibly travel halfway around the world to get what I ordered.

^This, on the other hand, absolutely makes sense. It's pretty bizarre that the quest text doesn't tell you what city or zone you're supposed to go to in order to drop it off.

If you read the quest text, you'll find that top-tier writs are still being given by the civic organizations of Orsinium, even though the drop-off location is Belkarth. I /bugged it a while ago, but I think they've been tackling issues that are higher on their priority list.

It would be nice if you could drop writs off anywhere and they updated the writ text so as to not be location specific.

Yeah, having them be turned in at a different location from where they logically should be based on who's asking for them is a different matter entirely.

Nothing says they couldn't change the flavor text to make the organization faction / generic with a 'drop off at the nearest collection point' either - though I'd still settle for the simple addition of text referencing the drop location after the organization name on the individual quests.

They could change it so that the text depends on the city where you picked the writ up and always sends you to the drop location in the same city, and that would make perfect sense. Arguably that would actually make more sense than the way it is now. After all, why would someone looking for specific goods to be crafted and delivered to Riften be sending requests for it to be posted in Wayrest? Are there no craftsmen in the bustling city of Riften?

Changing it so that you can drop them off at any drop location is what wouldn't make any sense - even if they changed the text to be generic. Mind you, if you mean generic text and the quest then wants you to drop it off in the city where you picked it up, that makes sense too.
