PvEr's: what's worse, unlocking Mages Guild on your magic build, or Alliance War on your stam build?

Lol, it was really odd. I had the Mages skills so I assumed I had joined the Guild. But yesterday I decided to do the quests just because even though I had collected enough Lore Books to get to 10 and unlock the Ultimate (I even have it morphed). She started the dialog to join the Mages and I said yes, told me I was now a member, then gave me the quest to talk to Valaste, even though I had that quest in my tracker for weeks on this character, since the day I created him in fact.

Thats strange indeed but on the other hand its kinda cool to have a special char. His magic affinity must be really strong.

Alliance War (caltrops) is the worst

I suppose I have to say the alliance stuff but seeing as I don't use any Mages Guild skills or alliances skills it isn't really a factor for me. Mages Guild though does level as I play just normally so if I wanted to use one of those skills I would be able to do it relatively easier. I refuse to do PvP at all and the only reason I ever would go to Cyrodiil is to hunt skyshards and whatnot, so i don't even know what the alliance skills are but I have to assume I would hate to try to level them.

Thank you to all that have set me straight on the Crown Store XP scrolls not boosting the Mages line via lorebooks. I just ASSUMED that all XP boost meant the skill lines too. My mistake, you all will now save me crowns!

Mage's guild is probably the worst grind in the game, even with the lorebook add-on on PC.

Then don't pvp. Pvp'ers have to do a LOT more pve than you have to pvp.

To be fair, it's a PvE game at the end of the day.

That doesn't affect the mages guild skill line...

Yes it does! Look at the Tool Tip for the XP boosts.... And if you are a ESO Plus subscriber, it adds 10% more XP on top of the Crown Store elixirs.

Mage's Guild, Werewolf, Soul Magic, Legerdemain, Fighter's Guild, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and Undaunted are not affected by XP gains. They all gain XP through specific tasks which award fixed amounts, and are not affected by XP potions at all.

its not close to 200 k ap..it is 90k ap..which you can get in an hour

Caltrops is mentioned in the poll. That means Assault skill line rank 6. Going from Assault rank 5 to rank 6 alone requires 90k AP. In total 188k AP are required to reach rank 6. Also, the average player makes nowhere near 90k AP per hour in Cyrodiil.

Ap grind was the worst for me. I have a heart condition that acts up when under stress or adrenaline. So unlocking vigor took 8 weeks and 200k all I did was repair walls.
