I Don't Understand ESO's Community

I think the op has a point. But to the op, this is what mmo communities are in general in any game. Been there, done that. It was the same with Wow forums, it was the same with wildstar, as tsw and now with ESO. It's not weird,its just that the people that were asking for nerfs and buffs got what they wanted after weeks or months of whining. Now that they got it, the ones on the receiving end realised that their characters are not as powerful as before. So now THEY are posting their ire.

Not only that, people were also bandwagoning with the latest trendy topic to debate. Or they might have not gone into the forums and realised how many topics were brought up to tackle an issue (me included). At the end of the day, it's all part of an mmo forum. We all can't agree on anything.

I'm having trouble finding your actual argument OP. We all come to the forums to rage and suggest changes, but players don't agree on most things and ZOS does what they want with development anyway. There will be buffs. There will be nerfs. There will be rage. There will be joy. Then we log off and go about our day.

Are you upset with the direction that U13 is taking the game? I'm sorry it's just not clear what your point is.

I thought I made my point clear, but apparently not. And for that, I apologize. My point is people asking for things constantly; then grow upset when they receive them. It's as annoying as it is confusing. It's also just the overall indecisive behavior constantly shown. Like someone in this thread made an example of with the destruction staff ultimate. People said the skill was horrible, and how underperforming it was. Meanwhile only a few weeks after its release on live, and suddenly its 'broken' and ruining PvP. I don't get it.

I'm a stage 4 lurker, and I see some truths in what you're saying. I just don't really get most of the vitriol that is spewed on here. I just have fun playing the game. If there are changes, I just deal with them. It's just not that big of deal to me.

I understand the ESO community . We have a process every major patch of shoutings and complaining about changes we didn't ask for and confusion as to how they will or will not work . We do this every time . After live in a few weeks we will sort out what we dislike the most and make new nerf threads and please buff threads constantly until we are heard . It doesn't have to make sense to anyone but us .

Two things:

There's a serious echoing chamber effect on these boards. One that loves to latch onto conditional statements, take them out of context, and claim they're absolute and universal truths.

This is how we end up with people saying that heavy armor is better than medium, that stamina is dead, or how 2h have no place in PvE.

We also have a few prominent people in the community who do not know what they're doing, or saying half the time. Which leads to idiotic statements like, "X class is dead." Which then gets mindlessly regurgitated by their fans all over the boards.

Different people want different things, often opposite things.

Someone said they want different effects PvP and PvE, for example, and i whole heartedly think that this would be a terrible idea causing even more complexity in an under explainained system, which will further segment pve and pvp communities.

Also this isnt the whole eso community. most people arent on the forums. There are reportedly 7 million+ players, and not that many people on the forums. (We dont know how many of those people are active players...)

Most of these dont complain about, or even notice the balance changes most of the time.

It's funny that you mention the whole 2H thing. I used a 2H on my StamDK for months, when I had first created them a long time ago. Dominated PvE with it. Granted as time went on I eventually shifted from 2H and Bow to DW and Bow, but I still was able to hold my own in group content with it. All the while supplying solid damage. Only to come across someone in the future who not only used a 2H, but complete PvP spec to get Flawless Conqueror. I made a thread about my encounter with this person, and my findings.

I will agree that the community has bia polar issues sometimes and it's not two groups, it's more that they change their play style or a new patch of sour patch players arise to the upper ranks and think there lowbey builds work (They don't).
Spamming skills will only get you killed faster this isn't a street fighter

Also "it's not fair that Radiant was nerfed" should of been nerfed about in 1.6 when I first left, but now I hear this skill is getting a downgrade and Mag will have a fair stand. I for one will be coming back with vengeance of a dying race "MagDK" and they will feel the leaping burn.

It could be that I have been desensitized to MMO forum antics, but I think that is a pretty big over-generalization.

I agree that the destro ult is a perfect example of something that caused forum rage/negativity when it was unveiled but then was changed to be pretty OP and people raged again. I was among those vocally upset by it in early PTS, not because I didn't think it would be good but because it was/is really bad and lazy design and I wanted something more interesting in its place. Then when it was hugely buffed at patch release, I was upset about that too (and rightfully so in my opinion). So I guess the moral of the story is that it's more complicated than [player whines -> ZOS buffs -> player whining again]. ZOS does what they want for better or for worse. Most of us don't agree with ZOS on a lot of things, but we also don't agree with each other either. It's up to ZOS to do a good job of sifting through player feedback to glean the great ideas. But I'm sure it's hard to get much through so much vapid noise. : /

we have seen magicka classes bragging that they can make magicka builds with 55000 magicka.

stamina will never be able to meet that, not even close.

Cried for dueling for months just because a twitch streamer or two asked for it and no one even really uses it now.

Same will happen for "battlegrounds" and all that other BS people here moan for.

Pet builds still would be useless without necropotance set. Its not the class its a set makes that strong.

The tooltip values made it seem much worse in comparison to other weapon ultimates is what started it all off.
All other ultis were instant, hard hitting ultis with good bonuses that look great on paper and destro staff looked very pale and underwhelming with its charge up time and DoT AoE.

It's obvious it wasn't tested in live environment and I even know where all that came from as I watched the first impression streams from the major guys of ESO who said "man this skill will suck, why can't it be more like the 2handed ultimate?" While all at the same time wearing all heavy armour with no skills and passives allocated anywhere that would boost and show the true strength of the skill. It instantly painted a wrong and misrepresenting picture of the skill which a lot of the community jumped the bandwagon on.
That's why you are seeing this inconsistency.

And not to mention the fact the skill was also tweaked several times since PTS, can't forget that too.

People complained for MONTHS how stamina was outclassing magicka (myself included), as stamina was getting constantly buffs and benefits thrown to them. Back after back. People swore out that pets are garbage. Oh how people wanted the Daedric Summoning skill line of the Sorcerer to be scrapped and or replaced. Pets are horrible this. PerSorcs are a waste that. Constant bashing of pet builds nonstop. For months. MONTHS! Damn the fact that pet builds were solo'ing content, and low-key doing things that were pretty unheard of. But still. Constant bashing of pet builds. Pets are becoming incredibly viable with U13, and people act like they've lost their damn mind. They act like MagSorcs are beyond broken now, and how pets are going to be the FOTM. What...? Were people not just complaining about how useless pets are, and a waste of slots? We pet users finally get shown some love from the devs, and now people get in their feelings? Y'all gotta chill, and stop the bs.

Continuing on to a similar note, why am I constantly hearing about how MagPlars are going to be dead with the next update and how they will become useless in PvP? I'm constantly hearing about how it's not fair that Radiant was nerfed, and completely unneeded. And yet... There have been how many threads and posts complaining about how people were tired of being "Jesus Beamed" at ridiculous ranges and melted? And now that what you've been constantly asking for has been delivered, you want to act like it was uncalled for? What?

I don't understand this community. I honestly don't. Maybe it's just not meant for me to understand, and for me to just: Lurk, gather information, and do with said information what I will. But some people within this community really need to pause for a moment, and make-up their indecisive minds on a lot of things. Because the constant ping-ponging is beginning to make my stomach churn.

The forums don't speak with a single voice. There are mixed opinions. So of course you are going to get mixed messages.

For example: some people hated the "Jesus Beam" and believe it should (and now has) been nerfed. Others thought it was fine and those are the same people saying it was uncalled for.

So it's not that the community is indecisive. It's that the community doesn't agree with one another.

Magicka came back in the game together with destro ultimate and the monster sets. Haven't heard stamina complains after that. The fact that stamina still dominates, are just an old and outdated meta. Only players who log in for writs and social, still complains about this.
