PvEr's: what's worse, unlocking Mages Guild on your magic build, or Alliance War on your stam build?

It seems most end-game DPS builds have Meteor on one bar (or at least make use of Empower), and most stam builds run Vigor, often Caltrops. Which of these is your least favorite to level up?

Alliance war is pretty fast.
When I went to Cyro on my lvl18 stamsorc, I got caltrops 10 levels later (and I did some extra stuff like skyshard hunting, which added up some exp).
Books are more boring and take longer. Even more horse simulator, yay!

Unless you are absolutely terrified of Cyrodiil, mages guild is by far the worst. You actually get to level caltrops and vigor by, you know, playing the game. Few things are more mind-numbing than gathering lore books. I will say that you probably could do the mages guild faster if you are brand new to PVP, but getting as far as caltrops just isnt that hard. I have done it on 8 toons. haha

Both? I voted for AP as I'm not good at pvp but I've managed to kill at least 100 or 200 players and I'm still only rank 4 in the alliance skills.

Mages guild takes forever but at least they added daily quests to help with that.

finding lorebooks *urgh*... it wasn't even fun the first time.. it was super tedious the 10th time

At least when I am levelling Alliance War rank it can be good fun... keep warfare, killing enemies, dynamic gaming! Compared to go to X on map.. read book... repeat ad-nauseam. I also usually level my magicka characters Alliance ranks to get proximity detonation & barrier.

PvP is fun and it is quick to gain those skills. I never even try to unlock them. I just go into Cyro, have fun and oh, look Vigor is unlocked. Meanwhile lorebook pickup is just plain boring.

Mages Guild is the worst to level up

The PvP part is easy and benefit is gained via XP and AP. With collecting lorebooks it is just a mundane task with no real additional gain.

I'd rather spend 1-2 afternoons riding to a keep on a slow horse than spend however long riding across 6 zones on a slow horse without even having most of the wayshrines unlocked

Alliance War (caltrops) is the worst

I went with Alliance War.

I've leveled up 3 characters so far since November and all got rank 10 Mage's Guild by 50 from just lorebooks. First quest done to unlock the skill line, and leveled up mage's guild by picking up books while running around collecting Skyshards.

I do run the Lorebooks addon so I don't accidentally miss any.

Mages guild I kept maxing en passant while going through cadwells with my various characters... all you have to do is keep your eyes open while questing, remember the rough location where books are lying around, and pick them up - not like they are hiding, and if you do all the quests for fun and CP, you will stumble over most of them anyhow. Its dead easy if you quest a lot during game-nighttime, since then you'll see the purple glow from afar...

Alliance war skill line one has to work for seperately of the usual PvE questing (...to grab all the skyshards and skillpoints), so only those characters I actually PvP on got it so far... but there are ways to have a decent stamina build without relying on vigor, so...

BtW, meteor is nice, but right now the most dominant mage-style ultimate would probably be "eye of the storm".

Worse or boring?

There is no need to fight really to collect mage lore books.. and its very boring...

Where as a PvE only player would be forced to engage in a aspect of the game that they may very bad at... so could be very frustrating.

AS the poll had not option for both, none or other.. I wont be voting :-)

Mages guild is a nightmare on console. On pc you get an add on where you just click the map and see the location of every lorebook.

Grab a stack of Crown Store XP elixirs, install the Lorebooks add-on, and go level up your Mage's Guild skill line.

I see no reason for PvE to be forced to play PvP.

My main is CP 330 (I did take a break for 18 months) and has less than 6 hours total in Cyrodil, and has never set foot in IC - and nor will he.

On the other hand Mages Guild "just happened" on its own as I was leveling through quest content. I put no special effort into Mages Guild at all.

Yes it does! Look at the Tool Tip for the XP boosts.... And if you are a ESO Plus subscriber, it adds 10% more XP on top of the Crown Store elixirs.

I'm a PS4 NA player.

Earning between 300-400K AP is extremely easy. A joke. I can do this solo or with most groups I can join in one day without Vigor.

Getting Mages Guild 10 is an absolute nightmare. I did it once, and will never do it again.

I haven't played my newest character longer than 6 hours in Cyrodiil (the rest of the three days have been grinding or lulzing about) and I'm already at Vigor (Alliance Rank 5). Tracking down books is a pain enough with addons. On console? LOL. Good luck.

I wasn't complaining, just pointing out my opinion in relation to the question asked by the OP.

And I agree, given this game was marketed with a "play how you want to play" message I think it is pretty bad that PvP players have to spend so much time PvE-ing.

But given that across the MMORPG industry the average level of PvP take up is only around 15% I am not surprised that Zeni spend more on PvE than they do PvP.

Mages Guild is easy on PC with addons. It's far more boring than levelling Alliance War skills, though.
