Got Server Kicked For Excessive Messaging?

Hello,

I was in Craglorn and suddenly started lagging. Then the game froze, I got kicked to the login with an error message 314 (I think?) for excessive messaging. I didn't type 1 message. Is this happening to anyone else? I'm afraid to log back in for fear of this happening again and getting a temporary ban of some kind.

this happens when you have lag and spam skills or whatever to compensate for it.

the server gets your input all at once and interprets it as spam.

Do not worry. You won't get banned or suspended for that. This is how it works, to the best of my knowledge, every single keystroke you press sends a message to the servers asking to execute an action with respect to the pre-configured keybinds.

So when you're pressing W (or any other keys to execute an action) to move forward while you encounter lag spikes, there will be a delay in the server to receive your commands while it looks for your connection. Meaning, if you're pressing a lot of keys during the lag, the servers hiccup and once the connection is re-established, 2 or 3 dozens of 'messages' will have been received by the server at the same time and it interprets those messages as spams.

Should there be any discrepancies in my explanation, please rectify it for me.

Possibly pressing different keys in quick succession doesn't cause it?

I have had it happen twice - once I didn't realize I was lagging and clicked the mouse several times trying to retrieve mail, and the other time when I froze and hit "4" and bunch of times wondering why my character wouldn't attack. I haven't experienced it pressing "1 2 3 4" or something but then, I don't often press skills that quickly in a row.

Macros do not allow you to do anything faster than the internal programmed cool downs will allow manual input they are just automated keypresses. While you could certainly program macro to do keypresses faster, they simply wouldn't work properly anyway. You macro could spam dizzying swing every .25 seconds, but only some of them would fire.

I've gotten lag so bad that I've been kicked without ever saying a thing on chat. I'll just be standing there in front of the wayshrine in Craglorn, watching the way lag makes all the other players zoom then jerk to a stop, zoom then jerk to a stop, zoom then jerk to a stop. Suddenly the scene blanks out and is replaced by the Log-In Screen.

There are plenty of threads on the subject all the way back to the beta days.

There's three threads in just the last two days where i wrote the quote below:

The error message is misleading, it has nothing to do with you sending mail or chat messages.

It's your game client sending excessive messages to the game server.
Most likely caused by either an AddOn or simple client/server lag.

Happened twice to me today while I was "acquiring" the contents of all the urns in necrom. Guess my light fingers were working too fast for the server to keep up
