GaldorP✭✭✭✭✭Just place crystals in all necessary holders, then activate the brazier. Bright crystals allow you to use one less crystal when placed in some locations (the beam will be redirected in a way that it "skips" one crystal).
I'm pretty sure it's random if you get the boss or a treasure chest at the end. Was around 50/50 chance for me (but I've only done this a few times since One Tamriel).
The chest was always bugged for me (and hasn't been updated in years) and will contain a green CP 20 non-set item (at least it did for me, when I tested it again a few weeks ago; and yes, that's CP 20, former VR 2).2 -

✭✭✭A former in-game friend of mine spent a crazy amount of time testing this when it first came out. He said there was a sequence to get the boss to spawn, but I certainly don't recall what that was. I was there when he caused the boss to spawn (it's overland, outdoors, above the dungeon for those who don't know wtf we're talking about) and then spawns a chest. I'm quite certain that @GaldorP has provided the most important information as if the devs totally forgot that hidden encounter was there when they updated Craglorn as I predicted they would when they announced the changes, there's no reason to even do this interesting puzzle if it drops VR 2 stuff.2 -

I agree, @GaldorP has provided the most accurate info for that run. I can confirm that
the chest only provide blue champion 20 stuff, which is not worst the effort, but killing
Ziruhir The Deep gives you somewhat better loot. Hopefully, ZOZ will soon fix that
at one point.

✭Solved it solo before the recent big Craglorn update. It's just another boss event, similar to those Celestial Portals.1
